The US Navy wasted almost $2 billion on a failed effort to upgrade its cruisers, a watchdog report found. AdvertisementThe US Navy wasted nearly $2 billion on a failed effort to overhaul its aging cruiser fleet, a government watchdog investigation found. After Congress rejected the Navy's 2012 proposal to retire its Ticonderoga-class cruisers, it provided funding for a 15-year ship modernization program. Since 2015, the Navy has spent roughly $3.7 billion of those funds trying to modernize seven cruisers. It said in a new report that "the Navy wasted $1.84 billion modernizing four cruisers that have now been divested prior to deploying."

US Navy allows Osprey aircraft flights to resume

CNN —The US Navy has ended an operational pause on its troubled fleet of V-22 Osprey aircraft, allowing flights to resume with inspections of the aircraft. If an aircraft’s gearbox has more than a set number of hours, it can resume flying. NAVAIR runs the Osprey joint program office, which means it has the authority to ground the military’s Osprey fleet over security concerns and allow the fleet to resume flying. The Navy and Air Force Special Operations Command also operate a small number of Ospreys, with both services using approximately 50 aircraft. Roughly a year ago, the military’s fleet of V-22 Osprey aircraft was grounded following a deadly Air Force Special Operations crash off the coast of Japan.

Pierre Vandier told Defense News they will monitor and protect critical underwater infrastructure. NATO is planning to roll out a fleet of uncrewed naval ships to protect critical underwater infrastructure. The development comes after several incidents of critical underwater infrastructure being damaged or severed over the last three years, with Russia sometimes suspected of being behind it. NATO has since taken steps to strengthen the resilience of critical infrastructure and prepare for any disruptions. It created a NATO-EU task force on the resilience of critical infrastructure in January 2023, established an infrastructure coordination cell in February 2023 to map vulnerabilities, and set up the Maritime Center for Security of Critical Undersea Infrastructure this May.
