CNN —First Rihanna’s bathrobe, now Gigi Hadid’s DHL tape dress — it seems that luxury fashion is looking right under our noses (or at least inside our houses) for inspiration. On Friday, Hadid walked in the Vetements show during Paris Fashion Week wrapped tightly in a roll of yellow and red DHL-branded packing tape. The adhesive tool was styled into a strapless mini dress, while two heeled pumps were wrapped in the same tape to match. The tape dress was paired with two heeled pumps similarly covered in the branded adhesive. The campaign began earlier this year and stopped before President Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race last month, a Meta spokesperson said. The WhatsApp accounts claimed to be tech support for companies like AOL, Google, Yahoo and Microsoft, according to a Meta blog post. The same WhatsApp campaign also targeted users in Iran, Israel, Palestine and the United Kingdom, Meta said. However, the company would not necessarily know if a victim fell for the WhatsApp messages and gave the hackers valuable information that enabled access to their account. It’s unclear whether or how more of the hacked Trump files will surface before Election Day.

Gen Zers, it turns out, are "not on a linear journey to evaluate the veracity of anything." In other words, Gen Zers know the difference between rock-solid news and AI-generated memes. For Gen Z, checking what other people are saying in the comments isn't shallow. The aim is to reach Gen Z readers where they live — scrolling through the comments — and turn them into subscribers. But I'll confess that I worried about the idea that Gen Z checks the comments to decide what to believe.

You've heard this one before: A big tech company is offering a lifeline to distressed media companies. That's the argument against a slew of deals publishers have been making with Sam Altman's OpenAI over the past few months. But the OpenAI deals, the publishers emphasize, are straightforward licensing deals for stuff they're already making. AdvertisementWhich means — they say — at the end of these deals, publishers won't have to regret investing in another defunct Big Tech project. But the thing I'm most worried about as someone who makes words for a living isn't a replay of the old Facebook/Apple/Google deals publishers now regret.

Some airlines are using artificial intelligence to improve travel. United Airlines uses ConnectionSaver, an AI-powered tool that helps manage connecting flights. And Smart Gating technology helps American Airlines flights find the nearest available gate. Industry leaders like United Airlines and American Airlines are using AI tools to create a smoother travel experience, a welcome effort for passengers who experienced an average flight delay of 53 minutes last year. One of the most impactful ways airlines are using AI — according to The New York Times — is helping determine whether a plane should wait for its connecting passengers.

Is Trump’s Trial Really About ‘Hush Money’?
  + stars: | 2024-04-17 | by ( Jess Bidgood | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
As former President Donald Trump’s first criminal trial begins, there is one battle taking place in a Manhattan courtroom, where he faces 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. But there is another fight taking place in the court of public opinion, which concerns a much more basic question: What should this trial even be called? Many media outlets — including The New York Times — have used “hush-money trial” as a shorthand for the proceedings. It’s a nod to the fact that Trump is accused of directing a payoff, and then falsifying business records, to cover up a potential sex scandal involving a porn star. “It’s an election interference case,” he said in an interview on NY1 in January.

Israel’s account of its attack on a World Central Kitchen convoy raises significant legal questions even if the strike was the result of a series of mistakes, experts say. The Israeli military announced on Friday that its preliminary investigation had revealed a string of errors that led to the deaths of seven aid workers. It took responsibility for the failure, saying that there were “no excuses” and citing “a mistaken identification, errors in decision-making and an attack contrary to the standard operating procedures.”But the description of events that has emerged raises broader questions about the military’s ability to identify civilians and its procedures for protecting them, legal experts told The New York Times — including new concerns about whether Israel has been complying with international law in its conduct of the war in Gaza more generally. The law: When in doubt, presume civilian status, and give humanitarian aid heightened protectionThe first, most basic principle of international humanitarian law is that civilians cannot be targets of a military attack. Militaries must have procedures in place to distinguish between civilians and legitimate military targets.

Hudson Bay has not been served the lawsuit as of the publication of this story. "Hudson Bay's investment in Vinco Ventures was a standard, fixed price convertible loan of which millions remain unpaid," Hudson Bay told BI in a statement. NEW YORK (AP) — David Bouley, the award-winning and frenetic chef whose idiosyncratic haute cuisine and crusty breads pleased critics and the public during a career chasing sleek deliciousness, has died. Bouley died of a heart attack Monday at his home in Kent, Connecticut, according to Lisa Queen, his literary agent. Other restaurants he worked in include Danube, Bouley Bakery, Upstairs at Bouley, Bouley at Home, Secession and Brushstroke, a collaborative effort with the Tsuji Culinary Institute in Osaka, Japan. Here's a new trend to learn for your next cocktail party: Bookshelf wealth. Bookshelf wealth — an interior design trend profiled in House Beautiful, Better Homes & Gardens, and now The New York Times — rejects a perfectly staged, hyper-curated room in favor of a look that's a little more messy and quirky. 1 choice of where they wanted to go was New York City,” he said. New York, home to the nation’s largest number of immigrants, has long attracted migrants who come here with connections to jobs, relatives or friends — avoiding the city’s shelter intake centers and public scrutiny. That is especially true in New York, which has recently drawn thousands of migrants with no connection to the city. Immigrant experts — as well as many migrants interviewed by The New York Times — said that an underlying reason is the city’s obligation to provide shelter to anyone who needs it. “Imagine if you have no connection to family, someone telling you, you can stay without cost to you in Manhattan, in the middle of the city,” Mr. Chishti said.

Portugal is ending a hefty tax break for foreigners in 2024 that incentivized many to move there. But come 2024, it will be significantly more expensive to live there if you're coming from another country. Now those moving to Portugal in 2024 and beyond will have to pay the same amount of income tax as everyone else, Le Monde reported. Americans already living in Portugal, like Dan Bagby and his wife, Michelle, who moved to Lisbon from Texas in 2021 , won't be immediately affected. But with the cost of living going up and reaching levels of parity with other countries, foreigners may not move to Portugal at all.
