After decades on the job, they had plenty of reasons to like working for the New Jersey State Police. Dawn Curran, 53, was proud to be among an elite cadre of troopers selected to protect the state’s governors. Wanda Stojanov, also 53, believed in showing her daughters that women could excel in male-dominated careers. For Rebecca Hotchkin, 56, the job offered meaningful work, competitive pay and health care that helped save her life when she got cancer. The New Jersey State Police employed 174 female officers last year — just 5.6 percent of its 3,117 troopers.

The Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that New Jersey can unilaterally withdraw from the longstanding Waterfront Commission Compact it has with New York to police corruption in the shipping industry in the major port the two states share. All nine of the Supreme Court's justices voted to dismiss arguments by New York in favor of forcing New Jersey to stay in the compact. "Since the first hours of our time in office, my Administration has steadfastly pursued the dissolution of the Waterfront Commission because it was the right thing to do," Murphy said. The two-member Waterfront Commission was created in 1953 by New York and New Jersey to address labor corruption in the Port of New York and New Jersey. New York claimed that the agreement "does not allow either State to unilaterally withdraw," Kavanaugh noted in his opinion.
"The Idaho state lab later located a single source of male DNA (suspect Profile) left on the button snap of the knife sheath." But Kohberger's phone did not come up in that search. Another search warrant, granted Dec. 23, gave investigators Kohberger's cellphone location during the 24 hours before the killings and the 24 hours afterward. The evidence was sent to the Idaho State Lab for testing and a DNA profile was compared with DNA discovered on the knife sheath. There's likely to be a lot more evidence — more sightings of the Elantra, more information about where Kohberger's phone traveled — that was not included, Martin said.
This week, the FBI issued a rare public safety alert warning of an alarming increase in “sextortion” cases targeting children and teens. One former investigator with the New Jersey State Police reported that sextortion cases have increased 400% in the last four years. One told a 13-year-old he would rape her and kill her parents if she didn’t perform certain sexual acts on camera. Tell kids to be highly selective about sharing any personal information and to never, ever share intimate images online. And anytime a child is blackmailed or extorted for sexual images, that should be reported to law enforcement.

The Moscow killings occurred in a three-story, six-bedroom rented house, about a half-block from the University of Idaho campus. The apartment house in Moscow, Idaho, where four students were stabbed to death held an enormous amount of biological evidence, experts say. “So, who could have left that DNA evidence? Before getting answers about DNA, investigators seek clues in the location of blood.
