In a brief report, state broadcaster CCTV said “specific casualties were being investigated.”Video circulating on social media and geolocated by CNN showed dozens of panicked school children screaming and running into the schoolyard, with a man’s voice heard yelling “quickly, quickly,” in the background. Images circulating online of the incident were quickly wiped from social media platforms. CNN —Eight people were injured after a cable car crashed more than 3,000 meters (9,800 feet) above sea level at France’s Val Thorens ski resort on Tuesday, authorities said. The incident seriously injured two people, and left six others with less severe injuries, the local department said. Construction was taking place ahead of Val Thorens’ ski season. Val Thorens is one of Europe’s most popular skiing destinations, and is the continent’s highest altitude resort. The Cime Caron mountain, where the incident occurred, has an altitude of nearly 3,200 meters (10,500 feet).

CNN —Nearly a hundred aid trucks were looted in southern Gaza on Saturday in what UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, has described as “one of the worst” incidents of its kind. Of the 109 trucks carrying food supplies for UNRWA and the World Food Programme from the Kerem Shalom crossing into Gaza, 97 trucks were “lost” in the looting, UNRWA told CNN in a statement Monday. Drivers were forced to unload trucks at gun point, aid workers were injured, and vehicles were damaged extensively, it said. In a report Monday that cited Gaza’s interior ministry, the Hamas-run Al-Aqsa TV channel claimed Gaza security forces had killed more than 20 people involved in looting aid trucks, though it did not specifically mention Saturday’s incident. Israel insists however that the number of aid trucks entering Gaza has risen and that it is “working tirelessly” to get aid into the enclave.

CNN —When an overwhelmed man came to a New Hampshire animal shelter last week hoping to surrender 150 mice, shelter employees were ready to assist. But now, the shelter is facing an “enormous” breeding problem, the director said – because the man didn’t have just 150 mice. “When he first arrived, he said he had 150 mice,” said Lisa Dennison, executive director of the New Hampshire Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. “The breeding of the mice has just created this enormous problem for him,” Dennison told CNN on Sunday. “With a gestation period of just around 20 days, mice can reproduce at an alarming rate.”Staff and volunteers attend to surrendered pet mice at the New Hampshire SPCA.

CNN —Dozens of people detained during protests over Venezuela’s disputed presidential election have been released, according to the local rights group Foro Penal. Video footage from outside one of the prisons shows some of those released hugging loved ones surrounded by cheering crowds. Human Rights Watch has said there are “credible” reports of 24 people being killed during the crackdown on the protests. Jesús Manuel Martínez Medina, a member of the opposition party Vente Venezuela, was detained on August 2 and had been in hospital since October 11. But tens of thousands of tallies published by the opposition suggested a win for opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez.
