CNN —Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed the head of the the agency responsible for his protection after two of its officers were detained over an alleged assassination plot against him. The sacking of State Guard Service (UDO) chief Serhii Rud was revealed in a decree published on the presidential website. According to Ukrainian state media Ukrinform, Rud was appointed to be Zelensky’s top bodyguard in October 2019. Earlier this week it emerged that Ukraine had detained two security officials allegedly involved in a Russian plot to assassinate Zelensky. The prosecutor’s office said one of the suspects received two drones and ammunition from Russia’s state security service (FSB), which they intended to transfer to another accomplice to carry out an explosion.

CNN —Two Ukrainian security officials have been detained for planning to assassinate President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to the country’s State Security Service (SBU). Two Ukrainian government protection unit colonels have been detained and are accused of leaking classified information to Russia, the SBU said Tuesday, after it “exposed a network of agents” belonging to Russia’s state security service (FSB). A woman from the southern Ukrainian region of Mykolaiv was arrested in August 2023 in connection to a plot to assassinate Zelensky. She was accused of gathering intelligence about Zelensky’s planned visit to Mykolaiv in order to plan a Russian airstrike to kill him. The plot was uncovered by Ukrainian authorities and the man was later detained and charged in Poland.

More Russian soldiers are offering to defect via a surrender hotline, a Ukrainian official said. The rise in calls comes after a Russian helicopter pilot publicly defected to Ukraine last month. The official said the number of Russian appeals to defect jumped by about 70 percent daily. A Russian soldier was caught complaining on an intercepted phone call. He said his unit had no ammo and was being given "one grenade per person, only to blow up ourselves." Multiple reports, as well as captured Russian soldiers, have said that Russian troops aren't being given enough ammunition or supplies. And in June, Russian President Vladimir Putin admitted that Russia didn't have enough equipment, including "high-precision ammunition, communications equipment, aircraft, drones, and so on." Russian troops have also reported not getting the money they were promised for fighting in Ukraine.
