A 74-year-old Colorado man was injured in his home by a black bear after the animal and its three cubs opened a partially cracked sliding glass door, authorities said. The attack Thursday in Lake City was the first bear attack in the state this year, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife. The man who was injured responded by grabbing a chair and trying to direct the bear out the door, officials said. The sow and her cubs were euthanized after confirmation of their involvement in the attack, officials said. Last year, six bear attacks were reported across Colorado, according to Parks and Wildlife.

Voting in Katmai National Park's famed Fat Bear Week was underway Wednesday after a bear killed one of this year's competitors and delayed the bracket reveal by a day. The winner will then try to beat Bear #128, also known as Grazer, a mother bear who holds last year's Fat Bear title. The injured cub later died and the surviving cub competed in Fat Bear Junior 2024, according to the park service. MILWAUKEE (AP) — After spending the last eight seasons as Craig Counsell’s bench coach, Pat Murphy is taking over for his former boss as the Milwaukee Brewers’ manager. Counsell took over as the Brewers’ manager when Ron Roenicke was fired in 2015. He hired Murphy as his bench coach following that 2015 season. When the Padres hired Andy Green as their full-time manager after the 2015 season, Murphy joined Counsell’s staff in Milwaukee. Weeks played for the Brewers in 2003 and from 2005-14, making the NL All-Star team in 2011.
