That is the most-watched game in the Fall Classic since Game 7 in 2019 when the Washington Nationals’ victory over the Houston Astros averaged 23.22 million. The series averaged 15.81 million, its best performance since 2017 when Houston’s victory over the Dodgers in seven games averaged 18.93 million. The game had a 21.1 rating and 55 share in Los Angeles and 14.8 rating and 39 share in New York. The share refers to a percentage of the audience viewing it at the time.

New York CNN —Tickets for this year’s highly anticipated World Series between the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers are set to be the most expensive ever. Tickets for the 2023 Series, in which the Texas Rangers clinched their first championship, cost about $776 on average across five games, TickPick said. The previous most expensive World Series was in 2016 between the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland, when the average ticket cost $1,691. It’s also the first time in more than four decades that the Yankees and Dodgers will meet in the World Series, since a 1981 matchup. A Diamond attorney made the comments before a U.S. bankruptcy judge on Wednesday as part of an update on the company's ongoing bankruptcy process and attempt at finalizing a reorganization plan. Some of those teams were already slated to see their contracts end this season, and some contracts are not being determined by the bankruptcy process, a Diamond spokesperson said. "To be clear, rejecting these teams is not our preferred path," Diamond attorney Andrew Goldman said on Wednesday. Goldman said Diamond had warned the league about this outcome in August, noting it was a possibility if the MLB rejected Diamond's latest proposal.

Multiple people were reported injured on Friday after a person driving a semitrailer truck crashed into a Department of Public Safety office in Brenham, Texas, in what officials said may have been an intentional act. CNN —Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred said on Thursday that he hopes the league’s investigation into superstar Shohei Ohtani is short, “but I just don’t know” how long it will take. The build-up to the new MLB season was overshadowed following the recent gambling scandal involving Ohtani and his former longtime interpreter Ippei Mizuhara. The Internal Revenue Service and Major League Baseball are investigating the matter, with the league trying to determine whether its strict rules against gambling have been broken. MLB commissioner Manfred can also penalize someone who goes outside legal sports betting entities and gambles with a bookie. The situation involving Ohtani has raised further questions abouts sport’s relationship with betting in the US as the industry continues to grow.

A toxicology report later showed that Chao had a blood-alcohol concentration of .233, the Blanco County Sheriff's Office said in its report. Chao drowned after friends and rescue workers tried without success to get the 50-year-old shipping executive out of the submerged vehicle. "Chao, who is still on the phone with Keinan, tells Keinan in a [calm] voice her feet are under water," the report said. "Chao told Keinan the water was rising and she was going to die, and said, 'I love you' to Keinan prior to the vehicle going under water." Both deputies entered the pond and tried repeatedly to locate Chao through the back door, "but were unable to," the report said.

The app, called Apple Sports, does one thing well: show sports scores from all the major teams and leagues. Apple services chief Eddy Cue said the company designed the app to be fast and simple for multiple quick checks per day. This new app, which won't come pre-installed on iPhones, is tightly integrated with Apple's other Services apps, such as the TV app and News app. It works for sports Apple carries, as well as games on streaming services that are connected to the Apple TV app, many of which still require a cable subscription but will increasingly be available from over-the-top streamers. Apple will also have features that will allow users to follow college basketball's March Madness tournament in the app, Cue said.
