The United States announced Tuesday that there will be no significant policy shift towards Israel, at the conclusion of a 30-day U.S. deadline for improvement in humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza. We believe that, had it not been for U.S. intervention, these changes may not have ever taken place," said Patel. The demands and the deadline were laid out in a joint letter from Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, delivered Oct. 13. If Israel wants to continue to qualify for foreign military financing under U.S. law, Blinken and Austin wrote, at least 350 trucks per day of aid must be allowed to enter the war-ravaged Gaza Strip. The letter also called on Israel to provide heightened security for humanitarian sites, and an increase in the number of humanitarian pauses to its military operations.

As the country's founder and first prime minister, David Ben-Gurion, once declared, "America's greatest gift to Israel was Al Schwimmer." Joining the Haganah, Schwimmer discovered, wasn't as easy as just strolling through the door. "He felt he had to do his part in creating a Jewish state, so this could never happen again," Schwimmer recalled. The women agreed to meet at a school Ms. Oliver founded three years ago. When the pandemic hit, Ms. Oliver grew frustrated watching wealthy, largely white, parents pay teachers for private learning “pods,” exacerbating inequities. “I have a very strong affiliation with marginalized people — brown, displaced, refugees, Black,” Ms. Oliver recalled saying at the beginning of the conversation. The way Ms. Oliver described the Hamas attack read to Ms. Minkin like a justification for the murder of Jews. Israel, Ms. Minkin later thought, is a central part of her identity, a place that shaped her, a Jewish homeland she returns to frequently.

"I am really sorry to report that we have now received news that Shani Nicole Louk has been confirmed murdered and dead," Israeli President Isaac Herzog told Germany's Bild newspaper. Louk, 23, was one of scores of people taken by Hamas during a deadly assault on the Israeli military and civilian communities that killed 1,400 people, mostly civilians. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, whose government has staunchly supported Israel as it mounted an offensive against Gaza in retaliation, said Hamas had to be held accountable. A family source told Reuters that a part of a body had been found which was matched to Louk's DNA. "At least she didn't suffer," her mother Ricarda Louk told RTL/ntv.

Washington-based startup Stoke Space raised $100 million in new funds, the company announced Thursday, as it aims to develop a fully reusable rocket called "Nova." Stoke's latest investment round was led by Industrious Ventures – with the firm's Steve Angel, chairman of chemicals giant Linde , joining the Stoke board of directors. While a number of U.S. companies are aiming to develop reusable rockets to compete with the success of Elon Musk's SpaceX, Stoke is taking a different approach from its rivals. Stoke is developing Nova to be a "medium" class rocket that can deliver 5,000 kilograms to low Earth orbit. That puts Nova in the middle of the launch market, between Rocket Lab's "light" Electron and SpaceX's "heavy" Falcon 9 in terms of capability.

Leverkusen snatch 2-2 draw at Bayern with stoppage-time penalty

MUNICH, Germany, Sept 15 (Reuters) - Bayer Leverkusen scored a stoppage time penalty through Exequiel Palacios to rescue a 2-2 draw at Bayern Munich on Friday and snap their winning start. The match lived up to its billing and the result left Bayern and Leverkusen level on 10 points at the top of the standings. Palacios thundered in his spot kick after Alphonso Davies had brought down Jonas Hofmann. But it was Bayern who scored with Tel weaving past the Leverkusen defence to set up Goretzka. Leverkusen, however, had the final say with Davies' sloppy defending earning them a last-gasp spot kick after a VAR review.

It's a sad irony, but an irony nonetheless, that this week the European Space Agency announced that a piece of space debris — left in orbit by a 2013 launch of Arianespace's Vega rocket and the target of a removal mission — appears to have been struck by other space debris. But the ISS itself may have to dodge space debris this afternoon, with station controllers considering changing its altitude. The risk posed by space debris is not a novel problem for the industry, but it's an ever more pressing one. Satellites and space debris are largely tracked via ground-based radars and telescopes. Debris removal is a nascent part of the broader satellite servicing market (also known as In-Space Servicing, Assembly and Manufacturing, or ISAM).

Norway has become Europe's largest supplier of gas, following a drop in Russian gas flows, which it supplies via a network of pipelines stretching some 9,000 kms (5,590 miles). "The state wants complete state ownership of the central parts of the Norwegian gas transport system," it said, without giving reasons. The gas pipeline network is owned by Gassled, a partnership set up in 2003 by the oil companies that were producing gas offshore Norway at the time. Gassled owns the Kaarstoe and Kollsnes processing plants as well as the majority of the pipelines delivering Norwegian gas to the European Union and Britain. Over time, the oil companies have reduced, or sold entirely their stakes, often selling to investment companies.
