☆ Slump for tech stocks could open the door for tactical trades in fourth quarter, investors say

The tech trade lost some of its steam over the summer, and that could create opportunities for tactical trading in the fourth quarter, several investors told CNBC. The Nasdaq Composite rose 2.6% during the third quarter, lagging behind both the broader S & P 500 's gain of 5.5% and the small Russell 2000's jump of 8.9%. Still, many investors are cautious of abandoning the tech trade completely even after a few bumpy months. Even after the recent slump, those stocks still account for about 31% of the S & P 500, and even more in many funds focused on tech or growth. RSP 6M mountain This equal weight version of the S & P 500 outperformed the regular S & P 500, the Nasdaq Composite and the Dow Jones Industrial Average in the third quarter.

☆ QVC to add USA Pickleball to its home shopping experience

QVC , the owner of home shopping networks on TV and streaming, has signed a deal with USA Pickleball to bring the sport to its platforms. In a multiyear partnership, QVC has acquired the exclusive broadcast rights of USA Pickleball, the national governing body of the sport. The deal begins with USA Pickleball's 2024 Biofreeze USA Pickleball National Championships in November, which will be featured on QVC's free streaming platform, QVC+/HSN+. As part of the partnership, QVC will also be the exclusive retail industry partner of USA Pickleball. More than 5 million women over the age of 45 actively play the sport, according to QVC and USA Pickleball.

The Astoria US Equal Weight Quality Kings ETF (ROE) , which launched in 2023, is up 17.6% year to date through Tuesday's close, according to FactSet. By comparison, the Invesco S & P 500 Equal Weight ETF (RSP) and iShares MSCI USA Equal Weighted ETF (EUSA) are up 9.7% and 10.1%, respectively. CNN —Belgium narrowly made it through to the knockout stages of Euro 2024 after a 0-0 draw with Ukraine, qualifying second behind Romania in a tight Group E that finished with all four teams on four points. It was a heartbreaking end to the tournament for Ukraine, which exits Euro 2024 after finishing bottom of the group, despite picking up more points than some of the teams that qualified third from other groups. The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) said over 70 bills it considers anti-LGBTQ were passed in statehouses this legislative session, double last year's previous record. The number of such bills introduced has steadily increased in recent years, growing from 115 in 2015, HRC said. HRC President Kelley Robinson named Florida, Tennessee and Texas as the most hostile states, saying Florida Governor Ron DeSantis had "weaponized his position." Twenty states now ban gender-affirming care, and 32 states introduced such legislation this year, HRC said. HRC praised Michigan and Minnesota for expanding LGBTQ rights in 2022-23.

She and Brandon Soderberg, a former Baltimore City paper editor, had tried to launch a new paper, the Baltimore Beat, but the publishing company that supported it pulled the plug. Decades ago, the Holofceners left Baltimore for the suburbs, like thousands of other white families, leaving the city with a depleted tax base. The large grant is an attempt to counter the idea that “any giving is good giving,” Holofcener says. “There’s a real opportunity for us to engage.”The problem was that none of the cousins actually had any say over how the family foundation doled out money. Instead, the pause gave the paper and the family time to thoroughly nail down their plans.
