“I hope to graduate college at 14 in spring 2026,” said Suborno, who recently became the youngest graduate from his Long Island high school. His high school uses a 100-point GPA scale rather than a 4.0 scale, says Suborno, who shared he earned around a 96 GPA for his first year of high school and a 98 for his second and final year. His father Rashidul teaches physics at Brooklyn Technical High school and his mother Shaheda is an elementary school teacher. “So I told my wife, ‘OK, there is nothing surprising here, he probably did it to capture attention,’” Rashidul Bari said. “That gives him lots of chances to have conversations with different levels of expertise, students, faculties, college presidents, so many people,” Rashidul Bari said.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Three teenagers were wounded in a shooting outside a west Baltimore high school around the time classes were starting Friday morning, officials said. The shooting adds to a recent uptick in youth violence plaguing the city this year, including several instances of Baltimore public school students being shot on or near high school campuses. In the aftermath of the shooting, which was reported just before 8 a.m., frantic parents gathered outside the school. Baltimore City Schools spokesperson Sherry Christian said officials had made contact with parents of the wounded students earlier that morning. The vocational school is located in a west Baltimore neighborhood that has long suffered from cycles of poverty, disinvestment and violence.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden’s education chief said he’s open to using “whatever levers” are available — including federal money — to discourage colleges from giving admissions preference to the children of alumni and donors. He made the remark when asked about using federal money as a carrot or rod on legacy admissions. By banning affirmative action but allowing legacy preferences, critics say the court left admissions even more lopsided against students of color. Political Cartoons View All 1173 ImagesThe agency recently opened an investigation at Harvard University after a federal complaint alleged that legacy admissions amount to racial discrimination. Without action, Cardona warned that the nation could face the same setbacks seen in California after it ended affirmative action in 1996.

The Latest:About 10 percent of offers to New York City’s most elite public high schools went to Black and Latino students this year, education officials announced on Thursday, in a school system where they make up more than two-thirds of the student population overall. The numbers — which have remained stubbornly low for years — placed a fresh spotlight on racial and ethnic disparities in the nation’s largest school system. At Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan, the most selective of the city’s so-called specialized schools, seven of the 762 offers made went to Black students, down from 11 last year and eight in 2021. Gaps at many of the other schools were also stark: Out of 287 offers made at Staten Island Technical High School, for example, two Black students were accepted — up from zero last year — along with seven Latino students. About 26,000 eighth graders took the test last fall, and just under 4,000 were offered seats.

In addition to building chargers in lower-income neighborhoods, Hertz will provide EVs, tools and training to the city's technical high school — and will offer summer job opportunities through Denver's Youth Employment Program. Scherr said that Hertz plans to share anonymized location data from its rental EVs with the city to help Denver officials determine where to install new charging stations. He expects that some of that data will point to sites in the city's less affluent neighborhoods, where ride-share drivers using Hertz EVs tend to live. The company currently has about 40,000 Teslas and Polestars available for rental, Scherr said. Last fall, Hertz and BP Pulse announced they would partner to install thousands of high-speed EV chargers at Hertz locations across the U.S.
