(Photo by Richard Heathcote/Getty Images)If you're watching the Paris Olympics and catch yourself smiling and cheering for athletes you don't know competing in events you've never heard of, you're definitely not alone. This interest in the Olympics — and the joy it brings — are felt globally, but especially in the country at the heart of the games, France. Here's why you might feel so happy watching the Olympics and how you can find that joy after the closing ceremony. The number of athlete backstories we learn are multiplied at the Olympics, which makes us that much more invested. That might look like watching the same show or reading a book together, or even more hands-on tasks like gardening, says Lyubomirsky.

Won the Olympic Women’s Gymnastics Gold1 United States 171.296 2 Italy -5.802 points behind 3 Brazil -6.799The United States took the gold medal in the women’s gymnastics team final at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday, beginning with solid vaults from Simone Biles and Jade Carey and ending with a bringing-down-the-house routine by Biles on the floor exercise. Team Italy took the silver, its first Olympic team medal in women’s gymnastics since 1928. And despite wobbles on the beam by Brazilians Flavia Saraiva and Rebeca Andrade — both during a skill called a switch ring leap — their team placed third for its first-ever Olympic team medal. China suffered in the rankings after Zhou Yaqin’s beam routine and Qiu Qiyuan’s bars, expected to be powerhouse events for the country, both included serious mistakes. VaultHow each team scored on the vaultCarey, who had been expected to compete on both vault and floor when she was named to the Olympic team, ended up competing only on vault on Tuesday after spending much of the past week sick.

Just after 10 p.m. on Saturday night, on the first weekend of the Paris Olympics, Jill Biden walked through the wood doors of Ralph’s Restaurant Paris, past a towering display of red, white and blue flowers, and picked up two glasses of champagne from a silver tray. Ralph Lauren, the brand that owns the restaurant in the city’s Sixth Arrondissement and is a longtime outfitter of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic teams, hosted the party to celebrate the U.S. team. The bash — along with the Games — was a chance for the brand to show off its Olympic collections. The marketing potential of the Olympics is “as if you have three Super Bowls a day for 17 days,” said David Lauren, the brand’s chief innovation and branding officer.

Before the Olympics even begin, there is always heartbreak. And June may be the hardest month of all. Caitlin Clark, the ascendant star of women’s basketball, just found out that she won’t be going to Paris. So did Bill May, whose hopes of becoming the first man to compete at the Olympics in the sport of artistic swimming were dashed by the U.S. selection committee. That’s because the U.S. trials in sports like swimming, gymnastics and track and field might just be the fiercest crucibles of all, with a ruthless requirement for Olympic berths: Perform well, or you’re staying home.

and USA Basketball, Kim Kardashian was sitting in her office in Calabasas, Calif., framed by two picture windows that offered views of manicured green lawns, and talking about size. Her long hair was dark brown again, after another brief platinum period, and framed her face as neatly as the view outside. I don’t really start out to do anything not the biggest possible.”This is Kim the mogul. Founded four years ago, the brand went from being valued at $1.6 billion in 2021 to $4 billion last summer. In between, it became the official underwear outfitter of Team U.S.A. for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, and won the 2022 Innovation Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

Robert Cianflone/Getty Images Not much of what led to this World Cup has gone the way Canada’s women’s team might have wanted. What he and Horan do know, however, is that the world of women’s soccer has changed since the United States thumped Thailand, 13-0, at the last World Cup. The first two World Cup debutantes to take the field, Ireland and the Philippines, both lost, but in close games. injuries are keeping some big stars off the Women’s World Cup stage.
