That's sure to result in increased volatility for the companies in our portfolio exposed to China, the world's second-largest economy. Taco Bell CEO Sean Tresvant credits his leadership success, at least partially, to one piece of advice: "Don't try to be a black belt in everything." "Be a black belt in marketing, and be a brown belt in everything else," Tresvant, who previously held marketing executive roles at Taco Bell, Nike and Sports Illustrated, told LinkedIn's "This is Working" podcast last week. Tresvant received that advice in January upon becoming CEO of Taco Bell — which is owned by fast food giant Yum! Instead of believing he has all the answers, he tries to ask the "right questions" to team members who have expertise that he doesn't, he noted. "I understand I'm not a CFO, but I have a great CFO who can lead the [financial side of the] business."

Meal deals and value meals are more important to fast-food chains than ever. I decided to try four other fast-food chains' breakfast meals to see how they compared. In August, Dunkin' became the latest chain to add a meal deal when it launched its $6 breakfast. Taco Bell is reviving five menu items from past decades for a limited time. We tried the new Decades menu and the Meximelt was our clear favorite. When the first Taco Bell restaurant opened in Downey, California, in 1962, it offered just five menu items: frijoles, tostadas, burritos, tacos, and a chili burger. Now, Taco Bell is hoping to evoke a sense of nostalgia in customers with its new "Decades" menu that features five of its previously discontinued items. We tried four items on Taco Bell's new Decades menu (the Caramel Apple Empanada will be released on November 21) and ranked them from our least favorite to our favorite.

The number of E. coli cases linked to McDonald’s Quarter Pounders has risen to 90, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday, up from 75 reported cases last Friday. The slivered onions used on the burgers are the “likely source” of the outbreak, the CDC said. The true number of cases linked to the Quarter Pounders is likely much higher than the 90 reported so far. Thirteen states have reported cases: Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Montana, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming. According to McDonald’s, 900 restaurants across 12 states received the onions from Taylor Farms.

Officer Daniel Hodges, of Washington's Metropolitan Police Department, who was on duty both for Trump’s Jan. 6 event and Harris’ rally, said Tuesday was a very different experience. He's since become an outspoken opponent of Trump's, testifying before the Jan. 6 committee and campaigning for Harris. He said he was glad that Harris chose to host a rally at the same spot where Trump told his supporters to march to the Capitol. While Hodges spent Jan. 6 fighting a pro-Trump mob in the lower west tunnel, he didn't see much action in the aftermath of Harris' speech. Subway sandwiches are short on meat, lawsuit claims

NEW YORK — A new lawsuit accuses Subway of “grossly misleading” customers by advertising sandwiches that contain at least three times more meat than it delivers. According to a proposed class action filed Monday in federal court in Brooklyn, Subway ads for its Steak & Cheese sandwich show layers of meat piled high, reaching about as high as the surrounding hero bread. In reality, according to several photos in the complaint, the fast-food chain’s sandwiches are far more bread than filling. Her lawsuit seeks unspecified damages for New Yorkers who bought the sandwiches in the last three years, for Subway’s alleged violations of the state’s consumer protection laws. Subway previously defended for more than four years against a lawsuit claiming its “footlong” sandwiches were too short.

Additional cases associated with the outbreak have also been reported, bringing the total number of illnesses to 90 and hospitalizations to 27. “It is not necessary to avoid eating onions or other foods made with onions,” the CDC said. Diced onions used at McDonald’s have also not been linked to this outbreak, according to the FDA. Beef patties used on Quarter Pounders were also part of the investigation, which started on October 22. McDonald’s announced on Sunday that they would resume selling Quarter Pounders in all restaurants this week, but the 900 restaurants that had previously received slivered onions from Taylor Farms would not include onions on these sandwiches.
