Comcast is expected to announce a plan Wednesday to spin off its cable networks into a separate company, two people familiar with the matter told NBC News. The company's chief financial officer, Hugh Johnston, said Thursday on CNBC's "Squawk Box" that the "cost is probably more than the benefit" when it comes to separating its TV networks business, given the "operational complexity." The future of the traditional TV network business has been top of mind in the media industry. In late October, Comcast executives said they were exploring a separation of the cable networks business. Disney reported Thursday that revenue for its traditional TV networks was down 6% for its most recent quarter to $2.46 billion, while profit in the division sank 38% to $498 million.

CNN —Special counsel Jack Smith on Friday released nearly 2,000 heavily redacted pages of documents in his 2020 election subversion criminal case against former President Donald Trump, revealing snippets of the evidence Smith relied on to charge the former president. The documents were released a day after Judge Tanya Chutkan rejected a bid by Trump to pause the release. Others include a myriad of claims of voter fraud during the 2020 election. The final volume includes memos from lawyer John Eastman with a plan for Pence to reject the congressional certification of the 2020 election. Prosecutors have charged Trump with four crimes stemming from his actions following his 2020 election loss, including conspiracy to defraud the United States and obstruction.

The first game of the American League Championship Series on Monday night between the New York Yankees and Cleveland Guardians saw an uptick of 4% from 2023, grossing 3.9 million viewers, according to a TNT Sports spokesperson. The championship series gains come right after four successful league division series for MLB and its broadcast partners. The American League Division Series averaged 3 million viewers, a more than 20% increase from 2023, according to TNT Sports. Viewership for the National League Division Series rose too, with game four in each series climbing from 2022. The Yankees have a 2-0 game lead against the Guardians, and the Mets-Dodgers series is tied at 1-1.
