☆ European markets head for higher open as traders assess simmering geopolitical tensions

European markets are expected to open higher Wednesday as markets keep an eye on a spike in tensions in the Ukraine-Russia war. The U.K.'s FTSE 100 index is expected to open 4 points higher at 8,106, Germany's DAX up 46 points at 19,108, France's CAC up 23 points at 7,252 and Italy's FTSE MIB up 118 points at 33,567, according to data from IG. Asia-Pacific markets were mostly lower overnight after a mixed day on Wall Street amid the mounting geopolitical tensions. U.S. stock futures ticked higher on Tuesday evening, as investors looked toward a key earnings report from tech giant Nvidia . Traders are looking for more details on demand for Nvidia's Blackwell AI chips, which CEO Jensen Huang last month characterized as "insane."

☆ Bitcoin has smashed records. Should you invest?

CNN —In the first quarter of this year, the price of bitcoin broke records in the wake of approval by the Securities and Exchange Commission for the first exchange-traded spot bitcoin funds. But in the past few years, education about crypto assets has been made more available to professionals. While it’s called a currency — and in some instances can be used like money — bitcoin is not legal tender in the United States or most other countries. He advises his clients who insist on exposure to limit their portfolio allocation to bitcoin to no more than 5%. Using a bitcoin ETF for exposure is the easiest option for most individuals who are not dedicated crypto investing experts.

☆ USS Edsall: Wreck of US Navy’s heroic ‘dancing mouse’ WWII warship found off Australia

Known as the “dancing mouse” due to its slippery movements in that final, fatal fight with the Imperial Japanese Navy, the destroyer USS Edsall went down off the coast of Australia in 1942, under the command of Lt. Joshua Nix. Speaking alongside Kennedy, Australia’s chief of navy, Vice Adm. Mark Hammond, said the wreck was found with the help of advanced hydrographic survey capabilities aboard naval support ship MV Stoker. “Nix’s position was hopeless from the moment Edsall was sighted,” Cox wrote. At least one hit Edsall, and the ship began to lose its ability to maneuver. The discovery highlighted the current AUKUS partnership, between the US, Australia and the United Kingdom, she said.

As the fourth quarter gets underway, there are some stocks that may be poised to outperform over the next several months, according to Citi. "Now, broadening is apparent, with Value leading while Growth has not yet achieved July levels," Scott Chronert said in a Friday note to clients. Citi views newly added Ally Financial as "one of the best-positioned liability sensitive names," seeing the potential for total book value growth of 25% by the fourth quarter of next year. "While mistakes were clearly made with the '22 auto vintage, the short duration of this asset class implies ALLY will not be stuck with the problem beyond 2025," analyst Keith Horowitz wrote. Meanwhile, Citi has a buy rating on the stock, and its price target of $50 implies nearly 45% upside from Wednesday's close.
