A smartphone with a displayed Qualcomm logo is placed on a computer motherboard in this illustration taken March 6, 2023. Qualcomm executives said that the company's new Snapdragon Elite X chip will be available in laptops starting next year and has been redesigned to better handle artificial intelligence tasks like summarizing emails, writing text and generating images. Qualcomm will be the first to market with a chip to challenge Apple, whose laptop and desktop computers have more than doubled their market share since the iPhone maker introduced custom-designed chips in 2020. Qualcomm claimed on Tuesday that the X Elite is faster than Apple's M2 Max chip at some tasks and more energy efficient than both Apple and Intel (INTC.O) PC chips. REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File PhotoAug 14 (Reuters) - Chip design tools maker Synopsys (SNPS.O) has signed a deal to bring its technical building blocks to the advanced contract manufacturing Intel (INTC.O) offers, the companies said on Monday. The two companies said Synopsys would offer a portfolio of designs that will work with Intel's advanced manufacturing capabilities Intel 3, and Intel 18A. Intel and Synopsys said that there was a framework in place for making the intellectual property available on future manufacturing processes. The partnership between Intel and Synopsys important step for Intel Foundry Services (IFS), its contract manufacturing business, to become a viable alternative to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd (2330.TW) or Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (005930.KS). Intel launched IFS in 2021, and it reported revenue of $232 million in the second quarter of this year.

She spoke following a keynote presentation in San Francisco during which Su showed an AI system on the MI300X chip writing a poem about the city. "The more memory that you have, the larger the set of models" the chip can handle, Su said. But unlike past presentations where AMD has talked up a major customer for a new chip, AMD did not say who will adopt the MI300X or a smaller version called the MI300A. Nvidia, whose shares have surged 170% so far this year, dominates the AI computing market with a market share of 80% to 95%, according to analysts. Aside from the AI market, AMD said it has started shipping high volumes of a general purpose central processor chip called "Bergamo" to companies such as Meta Platforms (META.O).
