CNN —The body found on the Spanish island of Tenerife on Monday has officially been identified as that of missing British teenager Jay Slater, a Spanish court said Tuesday. The court confirmed “by fingerprints that the body found yesterday in the mountains of Masca is that of Jay Slater.”The autopsy confirmed that the death was due to trauma “compatible with a fall in a rocky area.”Slater, who was 19 and from Lancashire, northern England, went missing almost a month ago after attending the NRG festival on the south of the island. He was last heard from around 8:30 a.m. local time (3:30 a.m, ET) on June 17, according to one of his friends, Lucy Mae, who set up a GoFundMe. She wrote on the GoFundMe page that Slater “had met two people on Sunday night” and left to go to their apartment, which was “in a very secluded location.”She said Slater left the apartment at 8 a.m. local (3 a.m. ET) and walked for half an hour, before “frantically ringing me when his phone reached 1%.”“His last location was on an off road track, which was a 10 hour walk from his hotel,” Slater’s friend said.

CNN —Search teams looking for missing British teenager Jay Slater on the Spanish island of Tenerife have found the body of a young man. “After 29 days of constant search the lifeless body of a young man has been found in the Masca area” in the Tenerife mountains, the Guardia Civil, Spain’s law enforcement agency, said in a statement Monday. “All indications are that it could be the young British man missing since June 17, pending full identification,” the Guardia Civil said. Preliminary investigations suggest the young man “could have suffered an accident/fall in the inaccessible area,” it added. When a young British man disappeared while vacationing on the Spanish island of Tenerife in mid-June, a familiar routine unfolded: search and rescue workers combing through the landscape, regular updates from tearful family members, a steady drumbeat of unconfirmed reports that he had been spotted. This weekend, the Spanish authorities called off their search for Jay Slater, a 19-year-old apprentice bricklayer from England who was visiting Tenerife, a popular vacation destination. But even after the 14-day search officially ended, conspiracies and other theories have continued to spread online. “There’s a small minority that believes and engages with these things,” said Aleksandra Cichocka, a professor of political psychology at the University of Kent. “But they can be really disturbing to the family and the whole process of the investigation.”

CNN —Locals in the Canary Islands are mobilizing to protest against excessive tourism, blaming visitors for pricing them out of their homes and causing environmental damage. “Every person who joins the human chain sends a strong message to the government: The Canary Islands are not willing to continue sacrificing their future,” it said in a post on Facebook published Wednesday. The group also blames local authorities for approving large tourist developments that worsen existing issues, such as increasing water shortages. “The objective is to create a committee of experts to establish common guidelines,” said Jéssica de León, minister for tourism and employment in the Canary Islands regional government, in a statement published Tuesday. A recent report from luxury travel network Virtuoso named Paris, London and Florence as the most booked cities for fall travel. “Fall is one of the best times to visit Europe because of the vast variety of interests [the season] can cater to,” says Mina Agnos, president of luxury travel company Travelive. If you’re ready for a different take on Europe this fall, we’ve got ideas. Fall also means it’s harvest time in Rebland – an area southwest of Baden-Baden famous for its Riesling.
