Edwin Tong, Singapore's culture minister, told local outlet Mothership on February 28 that the amount of grant given "is not what is being speculated online." As Tong, the Singapore culture minister, told Mothership, the city-state is looking "beyond just the economic impact" of Swiftonimics. Economists estimate that Swift's concerts in Singapore could contribute up to 500 million Singapore dollars, or $372 million, in tourist receipts. AdvertisementIt's a different story for spending on experiences — and it's heightened because Singapore is Swift's only stop in Southeast Asia. Mann said the people who have money to pay for flight tickets, Swift's concert tickets, and a hotel are likely to keep spending at other tourist spots.

Taylor Swift is providing a gold rush for the hotel industry. The "Cruel Summer" singer's attention-grabbing "Eras" tour has pushed up revenue for hotels in cities across the U.S., according to data from investment firm Bernstein. "This has been a notable boost to the hotel industry," Bernstein analyst Richard Clarke wrote in a note to clients Friday, using the term "Swiftonomics." (Revenue generated per room is calculated by dividing the total hotel revenue by number of available rooms, regardless of whether they were occupied.) Indeed, Clarke said occupancy was 11% higher in Philadelphia during the nights of Swift's tour, while revenue per available room was up 59% on average.

People's willingness to pay huge amounts for Taylor Swift tickets defies the current economy. I also got swept up by the Eras Tour hype. So when tickets to Taylor Swift's US tour went on sale last year, I wasn't expecting the astronomical demand to basically break the internet. Desperate fans who missed out were paying extortionate amounts of money for second-hand tickets, which were being sold at up to a 4,000% markup. Insider reported that at least two people spent $20,000 on the Eras tour, and that doesn't factor in the elaborate outfits that are pretty much mandatory.
