Canada were deducted six points by FIFA for flying a drone over opponents New Zealand’s training sessions ahead of the Games, and a wider spying scandal subsequently emerged. The points deduction was handed down ahead of the second group fixture against France, leaving Canada on minus three points in Group A and on the cusp of elimination. Canada removed women’s soccer coach Bev Priestman from the team for the rest of the Olympics on Friday morning in Paris after learning of drone use against opponents that predates this summer’s Games. Priestman did not coach against New Zealand after a staff member for Canada was caught flying a drone over New Zealand’s training session on Monday. “Over the past 24 hours, additional information has come to our attention regarding previous drone use against opponents, predating the Paris 2024 Olympic Games,” Canada Soccer CEO and general secretary Kevin Blue said in a statement. On Wednesday, the Canadian Olympic Committee said that it discovered a separate drone incident at New Zealand training on July 19. The committee said Canada Soccer staff would also undergo “mandatory ethics training.”A FIFA representative and a representative for Priestman did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

CNN —Snoop Dogg is used to recording tracks, not racing on them. But that didn’t stop the legendary rapper from putting on quite the show at the US Olympic athletics trials in Eugene, Oregon on Monday. Snoop was unsurprisingly smoked by his competition in the exhibition race at Hayward Field, finishing a distant third, but he still posted a very respectable time of 34.44 seconds. “Oh he’s jumping on top of the hurdle,” Snoop said in disbelief. “This wknd was fun … much respect to all tha world class athletes … see yall in Paris,” posted Snoop on his X account.

Organizers for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics plan to hold swimming in the home of the NFL’s Rams and Chargers — and softball and canoe slalom in Oklahoma. That’s according to an amended venue plan unveiled Friday by LA28, the 2028 Games’ organizing committee. It will be the largest swimming venue in Games history, per LA28, with 38,000 seats. LA28 organizers faced one complication with the SoFi swimming plan, however: The stadium is also set to be part of the Games’ opening ceremonies. The venue plan adjustments are in part due to new arenas that have become available for use and a previously assigned venue that became unavailable, LA28 said.
