The lawsuit alleges that Strum was demanding $50 million from Lasry or she threatened to make things "really, really, ugly." In the suit, Lasry, the former owner of the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks and a longtime Democratic megadonor, alleges that his former employee, Gina Strum, was trying to extort him for $50 million. The suit states that Lasry rebuffed Strum's advances, but that did not stop the flow of texts. "Ms. Strum wrongly asserted that Ms. Gardner's 2022 surgery should have been disclosed to Avenue's investors, because according to Ms. Strum, Ms. Gardner was in poor health and had not been working for the last two years," the suit reads. "When Ms. Strum received the attention and the money she sought, she routinely complimented Plaintiffs," the suit states.

CNN —The Supreme Court on Tuesday revived the case of a citizen journalist who was arrested in 2017 for seeking information from a police department source in Laredo, Texas. The court threw out a decision against the journalist and ordered the appeals court to look at the case again. And she now also has the backing of some of the nation’s best-known news brands, including The New York Times and The Washington Post, who are supporting her case at the Supreme Court. In an unsigned opinion, the court allowed the councilwoman’s case to continue. The Supreme Court did not explain its ruling and there were no noted dissents.

CNN —The US Supreme Court will decide whether a federal law prevents Mexico from suing gun distributors for allegedly facilitating the flow of firearms to drug cartels. The court had already agreed to hear cases on President Joe Biden’s regulation of “ghost guns” and vaping. Mexico says gunmakers are recklessIn its lawsuit, Mexico alleged the manufacturers and distributors were aiding and abetting the purchase of their firearms by dealers known to supply drug cartels. At the heart of the dispute before the Supreme Court is the 2005 federal law passed by a GOP-led Congress. Lawyers for Mexico, which asked the court not to disturb the 1st Circuit’s ruling, defended the ruling’s rationale and argued that it was premature for the Supreme Court to take up the case.

New York CNN —Coca-Cola is discontinuing the production of its new Spiced flavor just six months after the soda hit shelves, marking the end of a disappointing attempt to attract younger drinkers. “As part of this strategy, we’re planning to phase out Coca-Cola Spiced to introduce an exciting new flavor in 2025,” a spokesperson said. The short lifespan of Spiced Coke is surprising, because the company promoted it as a permanent flavor. Coca-Cola introduced Spiced Coke in February with a splashy ad campaign. The beverage blended the traditional Coke flavor with raspberry notes.

She said she was seated in first class on an airplane next to Trump in the 1970s when he suddenly began groping her. Leeds said she fought off Trump and moved to the back of the airplane. But the Llanez family never learned whether Gonzalez had followed ICE training protocols, because the way ICE agents are trained has been largely hidden from the public. For years, civil-rights groups have sought to obtain, with limited success, complete ICE training documents to understand how that training affects use of force by agents in the field. And they also appear to place an emphasis on teaching ICE agents how to justify the use of force. Among the most important lessons ICE agents receive is when and how to use deadly force. One of the questions asks which steps an officer must take before initiating deadly force; the answer is "None, deadly force can be initiated immediately."

The Federal Trade Commission is preparing an antitrust lawsuit against the largest U.S. alcohol distributor, Southern Glazer's Wine and Spirits, two sources familiar with the matter told CNBC. But one source said the commission is likely to allege that Southern Glazer's has been providing "secret kickbacks" to large retail customers and violating the 1936 Robinson-Patman Act. Florida-based Southern Glazer's Wine and Spirits distributes alcohol for over 7,000 brands in 44 states. Under the FTC's interpretation, the Robinson-Patman Act is not a wholesale ban on price discrimination and could allow volume discounts.

The Justice Department and a group of states plan to sue Live Nation Entertainment, the concert giant that owns Ticketmaster, as soon as Thursday, accusing it of illegally maintaining a monopoly in the live entertainment industry, said three people familiar with the matter. That helped the company maintain a monopoly, raising prices and fees for consumers and limiting innovation in the ticket industry, the people said. The government will argue that tours promoted by the company were more likely to play venues where Ticketmaster was the exclusive ticket service, one of the people said, and that Live Nation’s artists played venues that it owns. Live Nation is a colossus of the concert world and a force in the lives of musicians and fans alike. Its scale and reach far exceed those of any competitor, encompassing concert promotion, ticketing, artist management and the operation of hundreds of venues and festivals around the world.

The owners of the house where Marilyn Monroe last lived and died are suing the city of Los Angeles over what they call “backroom machinations” as part of efforts to landmark the house and save it from a planned demolition. In a lawsuit filed in Superior Court in Los Angeles County on Monday, lawyers for Brinah Milstein and Roy Bank accused the city of violating its own codes and conspiring with third parties to secure its desired outcome during a hurried process to designate the house at 12305 Fifth Helena Drive a historical landmark last fall. This lawsuit highlights how the city engaged in a “corrupt process to guarantee their preferred outcome rather than engaging in a neutral and fair process,” Peter C. Sheridan, a lawyer for the couple, said in a statement. The city did not respond to a request for comment. Ms. Monroe was the world’s most famous woman when she moved in March 1962 to Fifth Helena Drive, a secluded residential street in the Brentwood neighborhood that is part of a set of 25 cul-de-sacs off Carmelina Avenue.

New York CNN —For the past few years, Coca-Cola has experimented with wacky limited-time offerings, but its latest flavor is its first permanent addition in a while. Coca-Cola Spiced is a new soda that blends the “iconic taste” of Coke with a “burst of refreshing notes from raspberry and spiced flavors,” the company announced Wednesday. Coke doesn’t often add new permanent flavors to its lineup: Spiced joins just a few other flavors it always sells, including its flagship flavor, cherry and vanilla. “It appears Coca-Cola is looking to splice that trend onto its flagship with hopes of getting young consumers to consider the entire franchise,” he told CNN. Coca-Cola Spiced goes on sale February 19 in both cans and bottles in various sizes at most national retailers.

As interest in the pandemic waned, experts say some wellness influencers have latched on to climate change to galvanize followers. Patrick T. Fallon/AFP/Getty ImagesCécile Simmons, a trained yoga teacher, was surprised when many of the wellness accounts she followed started posting about climate change. Some wellness influencers are exposing young audiences to a slew of climate misinformation. Climate misinformation is having “a profound impact” both on people’s beliefs and on the normalization of fringe perspectives, Caulfield said. It’s particularly worrying as it allows climate misinformation to reach new audiences, experts say, including young people that might otherwise be supportive of climate change action.

Even for families with incomes in the 51% to 90% range of earners, the average inheritance was $46,000 — hardly life-changing money. Gavin Newsom signed a law Saturday to bolster eviction protections for renters and close a loophole in an existing law that has allowed landlords to circumvent the state’s rent cap. The move updates a 2019 landmark law that created rules around evictions and establishing a rent cap at 5% plus the inflation rate, with a 10% maximum. Under the 2019 law, landlords can evict tenants for “at fault” or “no fault” reasons. Renters’ advocates said some landlords have exploited the “no fault” evictions to get around the state’s rent cap. Under the new law, landlords moving into their units or renting to family also must identify the people moving in.
