CNN —Madonna was everywhere at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards in New York — and she wasn’t even there. But it was Artist of the Year nominee Sabrina Carpenter who went the extra mile by tracking down a vintage gown from the Queen of Pop’s style archive. Featuring a deep-V neckline and embellished with sequins, pearls and crystals, the white satin gown was designed — and later customized for Madonna — by celebrated fashion designer Bob Mackie. “Maria Schiavo, a well-known fashion stylist, borrowed my sample of this dress for a Madonna cover shoot for Vanity Fair,” Mackie recalled. Nobody else should be seen in that dress.”)Carpenter’s stylist, Jared Ellner, said on Instagram that he acquired the Madonna gown through LA vintage clothing studio, Tab Vintage.

When Steven Meisel shot the supermodel Linda Evangelista for the September 2022 issue of British Vogue, she hid many of her features beneath a series of hats and scarves. Ms. Evangelista, 58, seems far less shy these days. In the magazine, Ms. Evangelista appears in photos by Cass Bird looking not much older than she did in the ’90s, when she bragged that she would not get out of bed for less than $10,000 a day. “I try to love myself as I am,” she said in an interview with Claire Beermann, a writer and the style director at Zeit Magazin. (Ms. Evangelista declined to be interviewed for this article through a representative.)

Zara owner Inditex on Wednesday beat expectations with a 40% jump in half-year net profit despite the world's biggest fast fashion company slowing the pace of its price increases. The company posted a net profit of 2.5 billion euros ($2.7 billion) for the six months to July 31, outpacing a 2.38 billion euro market forecast according to data from LSEG. Inditex sales rose 13.5% to 16.9 billion euros and a gross margin of 58.2%. With a big share of its costs in euros, Inditex said it expects currencies to have a -3.5% impact on sales this year, worse than the -2.5% impact it expected previously. Inditex was among the first fashion retailers to raise prices in response to surging inflation early last year.

Prints of photographs from Madonna’s wildly popular 1992 coffee table book “Sex” will be available for purchase for the first time at Christie’s New York this fall, part of ongoing projects to mark the 30th anniversary of the controversial publication. In October, over 40 prints first published in “Sex” will go up for sale as part of a special standalone auction. “Thirty years on, ‘Sex’ is still somewhat controversial, but it still reads as a very body-positive, sex-positive book,” Himes said. “Sex” also featured Madonna’s then-boyfriend, rapper Vanilla Ice, and stars like supermodel Naomi Campbell and socialite Tatiana von Fürstenberg. The prints will go on display at Christie's galleries in London, Paris and New York before the October auction.
Amancio Ortega set up the first Zara store in A Coruna in the north west of Spain in 1975. Marta Ortega started from the bottom at Inditex, stacking shelves at a Bershka store when she was 23. Ortega, whose father owns 59.3% of Inditex, has mainly worked in the background, leaving the spotlight to the CEO. "We feel that Marta Ortega has repositioned Zara slightly upwards," said Patricia Cifuentes, analyst at the investment banking arm of Spanish investment firm Bestinver. "Reinforcing that Zara sells fashion, not just clothes, has allowed Inditex to increase prices and protect the margins amidst the inflationary storm."

On her Instagram story, Madonna wrote that she “also wrote about my sexual fantasies and shared my point of view about sexuality in an ironic way.”She received immediate backlash for the publication. “I was called a whore, a witch a heretic and the devil.”Despite the controversy, the book sold millions of copies, reaching No. Madonna, 64, linked her experiences to younger musicians and public figures who are able to be more open about their sexuality in public. Kim Kardashian can grace the cover of any magazine with her naked ass and Miley Cyrus can come in like a wrecking ball,” she wrote.
