Carson Beck and Jalen Milroe had to replace big-name quarterbacks at programs with national title-or-bust expectations. His turning point may have come in the SEC opener against South Carolina, when Beck rallied Georgia from a 14-3 halftime deficit to win 24-14. And Milroe has done something even Young couldn't do last season: lead the Tide to the SEC title game. Then Milroe was back, leading the Tide to a perfect SEC season and making their biggest play in the Iron Bowl. Besides the similarities of replacing star passers, Beck and Milroe share another common ground.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Rams are signing quarterback Carson Wentz, a person with knowledge of the deal tells The Associated Press. The source spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity Tuesday because Wentz needed to pass a physical before the deal could be announced. Wentz has been out of the NFL this season after starting seven games last season for the Washington Commanders. The Rams (3-6) are in need of another passer behind Matthew Stafford, who missed Los Angeles' dismal loss at rainy Green Bay last weekend with a thumb injury. Los Angeles attempted to make it through the season with Stafford and Rypien as the only quarterbacks on their roster.

Stetson Bennett of the Georgia Bulldogs celebrates winning the College Football National Championship game in January. Stetson Bennett Faces a Long Wait at the NFL Draft

Over the last couple of years, there has been exactly one name from college football that even people who don’t pay attention to the sport have heard over and over: Stetson Bennett IV. The former University of Georgia walk-on, who left to play at a junior college and returned to lead the Bulldogs to consecutive national championships, followed one of the most improbable career arcs in college football history. Bennett won’t have to pay for a meal at Weaver D’s in Athens, Ga., ever again.
LOS ANGELES—A decade ago, Georgia was a reliable college football power that couldn’t topple the sport’s dynastic kings to win titles. On Monday night at SoFi Stadium, the Bulldogs finally laid claim to a dynasty of their own. Georgia became the first program to repeat as champions in the nine-year College Football Playoff era with a crushing 65-7 win over Texas Christian. The Bulldogs used the same simple but suffocating formula it deployed all season en route to a 15-0 record: a stifling defense and a dangerous offense led by a 5-foot-11 former walk-on quarterback named Stetson Bennett IV.
3 TCU 65-7 Monday night to become the first team to win consecutive College Football Playoff national championships. TCU (13-2), the first Cinderella team of the playoff era, never had a chance against the Georgia juggernaut. No team has ever scored more points in a national championship game, dating to the beginning of the BCS in 1998. Georgia vanquished the Tide to break a 41-year national title drought last season, avenging its only regular-season loss in the process. They were within a victory of the program’s first national title since 1938.
Sen. Ted Cruz entered Monday night ecstatic about the TCU Horned Frogs' chances. #frogsby90," Cruz wrote on Twitter before the game. Led by Quarterback Stetson Bennett, a former walk-on player, Georgia stomped TCU 65-7. According to ESPN Stats and Info, the win is the largest margin of victory in a bowl game in college football history. Georgia enters next year with another chance at history: becoming the first team of the polling era to win three straight national titles.
There were plenty of obstacles in quarterback Stetson Bennett IV’s journey from walking on to Georgia’s football team to finally winning the starting job outright last spring after winning a national championship. Chief among them: himself. “I would catch myself on first-and-10 thinking about their third-and-medium blitz,” Bennett said in an interview earlier this season. “You start to get pissed off. Like, why do I still suck?”
CNN —University of Southern California quarterback Caleb Williams was named the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner Saturday night. Williams beat out Texas Christian University Horned Frogs quarterback Max Duggan, Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback C.J. The Heisman award caps off a season in which USC ended up just short of the College Football Playoff. Williams is the seventh Trojan to win the award and the first since quarterback Matt Leinart in 2004. Williams suffered a hamstring injury in the Trojans’ loss to the University of Utah in the Pac-12 championship game last week.
Tom Brady briefly tried out retirement, but at age 45 he’s still a few years away from being able to fully join the AARP. The University of Georgia’s soon-to-be 25-year-old quarterback Stetson Bennett IV, on the other hand, is already embedded with the retirement group. Mr. Bennett and some of his linemen are stars of a new AARP commercial in Georgia that warns seniors of fraud. A student quarterback might seem like an odd choice to be a pitchman for retirees, but Mr. Bennett is one of the most popular people in the state after delivering the Bulldogs their first national championship in 41 years last season. He also represents a surprising development in college football: many of the players are a lot older than they used to be.
