US efforts to produce semiconductor chips will continue regardless of who wins the election. AdvertisementNo matter who wins the presidential election this November, President Joe Biden can rest easy knowing one thing: The US's chip manufacturing push isn't going anywhere. The US has seen its share of overall chip production fall from 37% of the world's supply in 1990 to 12%. While many factories remain under construction, the federal funding has already helped boost US chip production. According to a report published last year by the trade and lobbying group Semiconductor Industry Association and Oxford Economics, the US semiconductor industry will face a shortage of 67,000 workers by 2030, including technicians, computer scientists, and engineers.

Today, a group of dementia researchers from the UK released some early results that suggest it's possible these trendy injections might also stall the progression of dementia. CNN —Argentina began its defense of the Copa América title with a 2-0 victory against Canada at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Thursday. Lionel Messi broke an appearance record which had stood for over 70 years by playing in his 35th Copa América match, and was at the heart of Argentina’s goals from Julián Álvarez and Lautaro Martínez. Canada, appearing in this expanded edition of the Copa América for the first time, was a heavy underdog against the 15-time champion but did squander several promising opportunities to get on the scoresheet. Spaces opened up, but when they switched to Di Maria on the right, or to Marcos Acuña on the left, Argentina rarely took that chance. It appeared as if midfielder Leandro Paredes and defender Cristian Romero knew that Di Maria wouldn’t outrun Alphonso Davies. Missed chances from Messi, Di Maria and Mac Allister kept the first 45 minutes even in Atlanta. Three minutes into the second half, Paredes sent a long diagonal ball to Di Maria, forcing Davies to backpedal. Yet with highlight-reel saves against Argentina, Crepeau stepped into the limelight and showed why Canada’s goal is now his and his alone.

The dredging project is expected to be completed in Fall 2025, making the Port of Virginia the deepest and widest harbor on the East Coast. "Ultra-large container vessels have challenged every port," said Stephen Edwards, CEO of the Port of Virginia. Edwards said the port was able to quickly absorb Baltimore freight because of the ocean carrier service overlap in calling on the Port of Virginia, Baltimore and Port of New York/New Jersey. In January, the port became the first East Coast port to power all its terminals with 100% clean energy, eight years ahead of the 2032 target it set for that goal. The expansion will increase the fleet at NIT to 152 electric stacking cranes, seven electric rail cranes, and 31 electric ship-to-shore cranes.

By Sofia MenchuGUATEMALA CITY (Reuters) - Guatemala's attorney general, a steadfast opponent of President-elect Bernardo Arevalo, has crafted a complex strategy to weaken his mandate or prevent him from taking office, according to five sources with knowledge of the prosecutor's thinking. At the center is Attorney General Maria Consuelo Porras, who protesters blame for attempting to prevent Arevalo from taking office on Jan. 14. Anti-graft campaigner Arevalo won a shock landslide victory in August but has received a backlash from the political establishment. Luis Almagro, head of the Organization of American States (OAS), has said the actions of the attorney general's office had set "a shameful example."
