Activist investor Elliott Management has a $5 billion-plus stake in Honeywell , and it is pushing the industrial conglomerate to break itself up into two companies. Elliott managing partner Jesse Cohn and partner Marc Steinberg wrote in a Tuesday letter that "the conglomerate structure that once suited Honeywell no longer does." Elliott believes that dividing Honeywell into two companies could unlock upside of as much as 75% over the next two years. In the past, Cohn and Steinberg wrote, Honeywell's carefully assembled businesses had previously driven "consistent" margin improvements. A Honeywell spokesperson said that the company and its board "acknowledge and appreciate the perspectives of all our shareholders."

The Zeta Economic Index, launched Monday, uses generative AI to analyze what its developers call "trillions of behavioral signals," largely focused on consumer activity, to score growth on both a broad level of health and a separate measure on stability. At its core, the index will gauge online and offline activity across eight categories, aiming to give a comprehensive look that incorporates standard economic data points such as unemployment and retail sales combined with high-frequency information for the AI age. "The algorithm is looking at traditional economic indicators that you would normally look at. But then inside of our proprietary algorithm, we're ingesting the behavioral data and transaction data of 240 million Americans, which nobody else has," said David Steinberg, co-founder, chairman and CEO of Zeta Global.

A man serving a life sentence for kidnapping and other crimes while in a Georgia prison built two bombs which he mailed to a District of Columbia office building and the federal courthouse and building in Anchorage, Alaska, prosecutors allege. The bomb that went to Washington, D.C., was mailed to the Bond Building, whose office tenants include the Department of Justice. "Protecting our personnel and facilities is a fundamental role of our office and of our law enforcement partners," said U.S. Attorney Jill Steinberg, whose office is prosecuting Cassady. Barry Paschal, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office, declined to comment when asked to explain the more than four-year lag between Cassady allegedly mailing the bombs, and being charged in the case. Paschal said he could not comment on details of the case beyond those contained in the indictment.
