This digital ad posted by Republican Senate candidate Dave McCormick in Pennsylvania, about a week before Biden eventually dropped his bid, was the blueprint. Almost immediately, Democrats saw a surge of support — mostly from disillusioned Democratic voters. As of this writing, it’s now Republicans in battleground states and districts who are begging their nominee to change course. Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes’ office announced Monday that Jenna Ellis, a former Donald Trump attorney and one of the 18 defendants in the Arizona “fake electors” case stemming from the 2020 election, is cooperating with the prosecution. Ellis signed the cooperation agreement Monday morning, according to the announcement, which said prosecutors are dropping the charges against her. “This agreement represents a significant step forward in our case,” Mayes, a Democrat, said in a statement. Buoyed by an energetic State of the Union address to Congress and some extra presidential star power, the Biden campaign and its affiliated fundraising groups raised $90 million in March, nearly equaling what they raised in the first two months of 2024 combined. It comes as former President Donald Trump's campaign is only starting to kick its fundraising operation into high gear. Most of the $26 million raised for the March 28 "Three Presidents" fundraiser, which featured Presidents Joe Biden, Barack Obama and Bill Clinton as well as musical performances from Lizzo, Queen Latifah and others, came in over the course of March. The Trump campaign has not yet reported its March fundraising. The Biden campaign says that a majority of its fundraising has now come from "grassroots" donors, and it's embracing the contrast with Trump's weekend event.

The highest level of contributions to the Trump 47 Committee – as the joint fundraising committee is known – is called “Ultra MAGA” and is designated for individuals who donate $814,600, the current limit that one person can currently donate to Trump 47. A Trump campaign aide did not immediately respond to an inquiry about the fundraising levels. On Thursday, Biden was joined by two former White House occupants – Barack Obama and Bill Clinton – at a star-studded New York fundraiser that the Biden campaign said brought in more than $26 million. Donations to the Trump 47 Committee benefit Trump’s campaign; his leadership PAC, which has underwritten his legal bills; the Republican National Committee and roughly 40 state party committees. CNN —A federal court said Thursday that it will allow a US House election in South Carolina for Republican Rep. Nancy Mace’s seat to proceed under a map it had previously declared unconstitutional. In a brief order, the judges in the case said they had little choice, given a fast-approaching deadline to prepare for the primary election for the state’s down-ballot contests. South Carolina officials appealed to the US Supreme Court, and the justices heard arguments in the case in October. They said they recognized that it’s unusual to allow an election to proceed under a map they had deemed invalid. Mace won reelection in 2022 by 14 points, after winning the seat under the previous map by a single point two years earlier.

ATLANTA (AP) — The charges against former President Donald Trump in the Georgia election interference case seek to criminalize political speech and advocacy conduct that the First Amendment protects, his lawyers argued in a court filing challenging the indictment. Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee plans to hear arguments on that filing and on two pretrial motions filed by former Georgia Republican Party chair David Shafer during a hearing set for Thursday. Lawyers for Shafer argue that he acted legally when he and other state Republicans signed a certificate asserting that Trump won the 2020 presidential election in Georgia and declaring themselves the state’s “duly elected and qualified” electors. McAfee is forging ahead with the case even as Trump and other defendants have said they plan to seek a ruling from the Georgia Court of Appeals to disqualify District Attorney Fani Willis. HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Democratic U.S. Sen. Bob Casey and Republican David McCormick will be the only eligible names on ballots for the office in Pennsylvania's April primary after a ruling Friday by the state's highest court. The state Supreme Court rejected an appeal from a Republican candidate, Joe Vodvarka, who had been ordered off primary ballots by a lower court that found he had not received enough voter signatures to qualify. The state Supreme Court, in its two-line order, did not explain its decision. Courts earlier in March had already granted challenges to the paperwork of two other candidates filing for the primary ballot for U.S. Senate. Both Brandi Tomasetti, a Republican from Lancaster County, and William Parker, a Democrat from Allegheny County, were ordered off ballots.
