A Wyoming judge ruled Monday that two laws restricting and banning abortion in the state violate its constitution, making the procedure legal up until fetal viability for the time being. Teton County District Judge Melissa Owens imposed an injunction on the pair of state laws in a ruling that said they ran afoul of the state constitution, which says every person has a right to personal autonomy in making medical decisions. The statutes were therefore “facially unconstitutional,” Owens wrote, as they placed “unreasonable and unnecessary restrictions” on pregnant women’s rights to make their own health care decisions. Owens has blocked the state's abortion laws three times now. One of the plaintiffs in the current suit, Wellspring Health Access, opened as Wyoming’s only full-service abortion clinic last year.

A woman in Kentucky who is seeking an abortion filed a lawsuit Tuesday that seeks to strike down the state’s near total ban. The suit, filed by a woman referred to in the documents as Mary Poe, alleges that two Kentucky abortion laws violate the state Constitution’s rights to privacy and self-determination. “I feel overwhelmed and frustrated that I cannot access abortion care here in my own state, and I have started the difficult process of arranging to get care in another state where it’s legal. Poe’s lawsuit is also requesting class-action status for all pregnant people in Kentucky who are seeking access to abortion in the state but are not allowed to receive the medical treatment because of the abortion laws. In 2022, the ACLU was involved in a lawsuit brought by abortion providers on behalf of their patients.

Despite endorsements running the gamut from the Florida Democratic Party to former President Donald Trump, Amendment 3, which would have legalized the recreational use and manufacturing of marijuana in the state, failed to get the 60% voter support needed to pass a state constitutional amendment. CNN —Republican Bernie Moreno will defeat Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown, CNN projects, a key pickup for the GOP in a state that’s been trending its way and putting the GOP one step closer to securing the Senate majority. Moreno emerged as the GOP nominee earlier this year after Democrats helped prop him up in the primary, believing he’d be the weakest opponent. Moreno’s GOP allies also tried hitting Brown over transgender athletes in an effort to cast the senator as too liberal for the state. (Brown and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee went up with a response ad on the issue that says the senator agrees with GOP Gov. But Moreno had significant outside firepower from GOP groups that helped boost his candidacy in the fall.

In 2016, Shawna Lynn Jones became the first incarcerated woman to die while fighting a fire in California, according to the state corrections department. "If it means we have to come back to California voters in two years or four years, then that's what we'll do," Nuñez said.
