July 16 (Reuters) - Henry Searle ended Britain's 61-year wait for a boys' singles title at Wimbledon when he beat Russian fifth seed Yaroslav Demin 6-4 6-4 in the final on Sunday. Searle, who fired nine aces and 22 winners to wrap up the win in 83 minutes, claimed the title without dropping a set in the tournament. "It's amazing to play on Court One," said the 17-year-old Searle, who beat four seeded players en route to the title. Britain's last boys' title at the grasscourt Grand Slam came when Stanley Matthews, son and namesake of the Ballon d'Or-winning footballer, won in 1962. Described as a “real bunch of ragamuffins” by the author Geoffrey Douglas, the US beat a star-studded England side 1-0 at the 1950 World Cup. On the other side of the pond, hopes were sky high for a star-studded England team.
Walton & Hersham FC traces its roots to 1895 and played at Wembley, but it had fallen on hard times. My first memory of football was when I was 5 and my dad took me to watch Walton & Hersham FC play AFC Wimbledon. One Saturday in 2018, I decided to take a break from my university studies and watch a Walton & Hersham FC match with my dad. Under the new owners, Walton & Hersham FC has been promoted twice. We're not on the same scale as "Welcome to Wrexham," but we recognized the financial anguish that comes with owning a football club.
