The Justice Department on Wednesday asked the judge in its antitrust case against Google to force the company to sell its Chrome browser. "Advertisers would find competitors for their business, rather than needing to pay a dominant search engine." When you open Chrome and type something into the search bar at the top, these words are automatically transformed into a Google Search. And when there's an option for users, Google pays partners billions of dollars to set its search engine as the default. For instance, if most people click on the third result, Google's Search engine will likely adjust and rank that result higher in the future.

Snowflake CEO Sridhar Ramaswamy said tech firms lack transparancy about their AI hallucination rates. Snowflake CEO Sridhar Ramaswamy said AI companies would benefit from making it clear just how often that happens. Some tech moguls have defended AI hallucinations, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who said that AI models that only answered when absolutely certain would lose their "magic." Anthropic cofounder Jared Kaplan said earlier this year that the end goal is AI models that don't hallucinate, but occasional chatbot errors are a necessary "tradeoff" for users. AdvertisementBaris Gultekin, Snowflake's head of AI, told Business Insider in a statement that AI hallucinations are the "biggest blocker" for generative AI to front-end users.

Shares of Snowflake closed down more than 14% on Thursday after the data cloud analytics company released fiscal second-quarter 2025 earnings that beat Wall Street's estimates but showed decelerating product revenue growth compared to past quarters. The company reported $829.3 million in product revenue, which accounts for most of Snowflake's sales, up 30% year over year. They said the company's smaller product revenue beat and deceleration in growth will not inspire weary investors. "A 2% product revenue beat in Q2, down from 5% in Q1, with product revenue growth dipping further to 29.5% YoY," likely sows "enough doubt in the investor conversation to keep shares under pressure in the near-term," the analysts wrote in a note Thursday. "True, 30% y/y product growth is slower than the 33-34% level we saw the past 2 quarters.

Sridhar Ramaswamy, CEO of Snowflake and formerly co-founder and CEO of startup Neeva, speaks at the Collision conference in Toronto on June 21, 2022. Snowflake has spent the past seven weeks dealing with the fallout of a major cyberattack that compromised sensitive customer data at several of its clients. The data includes phone numbers, aggregate call duration and some cell site details, AT&T said in the filing. It is the most severe incident since Snowflake disclosed the breach on May 30, writing in a blog post at the time, "We became aware of potentially unauthorized access to certain customer accounts on May 23, 2024." "I'm not aware of anyone using AWS chips in any sort of large volumes," Rasgon told Business Insider, referring to Amazon's AI chips. This time, the idea is to avoid paying for expensive Nvidia GPUs, while still providing cloud customers with powerful AI services. An obvious response to this would be to have cloud customers use Amazon's AI chips instead. However, some of the largest AWS customers have not been willing to use these homegrown alternatives, the documents said. For example, AWS's AI chips still have "compatibility gaps" in certain open-source frameworks, making Nvidia GPUs a more popular option.

"Our expectation in the next year is that people will be talking less about the tech and actually understand the value," of Snowflake's data clean room, Stratton said. The clean room space is competitive and marketers intend to spend more on the techUltimately a data clean room is only as valuable as the customers who share data within it — even when it's being offered for free. In 2020, as data analytics software vendor Snowflake was hitting the public market, one of the key stats it was touting to investors was net revenue retention. Snowflake's NRR at the time was 158%, meaning its existing customer base from a year earlier had increased its total spend by 58%. "More pressure on churn (as companies look to reduce point solutions in favor of platforms) and more difficult upsells have pushed net retention down," Ball added. Twilio , which sells cloud-based communications software, reported NRR of 102% in February, with just 5% year-over-year revenue growth. Almost all of Twilio's revenue comes from its division that contains technology for sending text messages and emails.
