Northwest Arkansas was last year ranked the 15th fastest-growing region in the country, and much of that population growth was driven by immigrant workers. “It’s a popular selling point to the base to say ‘I’m going to round up five million immigrants,’” said Mr. Quiñones, 35. The influx of immigrants into Northwest Arkansas has given rise to a thriving local ecosystem of businesses. Northwest Arkansas is the 15th fastest-growing region in the country, and much of that population growth is driven by immigrant workers. “We don’t have this thinking that people are being displaced,” Mr. Peacock said.

One by one, each country with the money and the drive to compete started its own nuclear weapons program. Even with this kind of evidence in hand, science has reached only limited conclusions about how nuclear weapons testing affects individuals’ health. They helped create the 2021 Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, signed by 93 countries, which bans the possession, use and testing of nuclear weapons. France has acknowledged its “debt” to Polynesians over nuclear testing, and it created a commission in 2010 to evaluate nuclear testing victim compensation claims, but it has never apologized. We are still wrestling with the damage wrought by testing nuclear weapons in our past.

CHICAGO, June 13 (Reuters) - Tyson Foods will lay off 228 corporate employees in Illinois who declined to relocate to the meatpacker's Arkansas headquarters, eliminating about 46% of the total staff from two offices, the company confirmed on Tuesday. Employees have resisted a decision to consolidate corporate offices, which Tyson announced in October, as the company grapples with high costs for cattle and easing demand for meat from cash-strapped consumers. Tyson will eliminate 177 employees from an office in downtown Chicago and 51 employees in suburban Downers Grove, Illinois, starting on July 31, according to the state. The company said the layoffs were due to the consolidation of corporate offices to Springdale, Arkansas. Including layoffs at another office in Dakota Dunes, South Dakota, Tyson will eliminate about 490 corporate employees who opted not to relocate, out of roughly 1,000 workers.

Tyson Foods said it expects improved results later this year. Tyson Foods Inc. said its profit fell in its fiscal first quarter from a year ago as costs climbed and beef prices fell. The Springdale, Ark.-based company posted a profit of $316 million, or 88 cents a share, in the period ended Dec. 31, compared with $1.12 billion, or $3.07 a share, a year earlier. Executives of the Springdale, Ark., company, the largest U.S. meat processor by sales, said that meat supplies have been growing, while consumers shift their purchasing in response to a softening U.S. economy. Meatpackers meanwhile continue to pay more for transport, animal feed and plant worker wages, cutting into profits.
