New York CNN —Police are searching for a gunman who shot and killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in what police described as a bold and deliberate attack in the heart of New York City.
The gunman calmly walked toward the CEO and continued to shoot –– appearing to clear a jam with the firearm momentarily before shooting again, video shows.
Thompson was pronounced dead less than half an hour after the incident, and the search for the gunman, who fled into Central Park, continues Thursday.

“We are deeply saddened and shocked at the passing of our dear friend and colleague Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare,” a public statement from the company said.
