We hated that many of the city's unique small businesses were being forced out due to high rents. We loved that the city was less hurried, had a small-town feel, and prided itself on its motto, "Keep Austin Weird." Neighborhood names are also shorthand for your rent or mortgage payments. In 2017, real-estate brokers in the historically Black New York neighborhood of Harlem sparked backlash when they tried to rebrand its south end as SoHa. At their best, new neighborhood names bring people together over a shared sense of pride in their little corner of the world. Along the way, these neighborhood names have veered into parody territory. I'm not saying that neighborhood names should be set in stone — in fact, I think it's natural for them to evolve alongside their populations.

Lourdes Portillo, an Oscar-nominated Mexican-born documentary filmmaker whose work explored Latin American social issues, died on Saturday at her home in San Francisco. Her death was confirmed by her friend Soco Aguilar. One of Ms. Portillo’s best-known works is her 1994 documentary “The Devil Never Sleeps,” a murder-mystery in which she investigates the strange death of her multimillionaire uncle, whose widow claimed he had died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. In 2020, the Library of Congress selected the film for the National Film Registry. The documentary had the tenor of a telenovela and presented open questions about Mr. Ruiz Almeida’s mysterious life and death and the people who could have had a motive for the murder.

So when the Hong Kong government raised the minimum wage by a measly 32 cents on Monday, activists and community workers were scathing in their response. “It cannot cover basic needs in Hong Kong.”The new minimum wage now stands at 40 Hong Kong dollars ($5.1) per hour, up from the previous 37.5 Hong Kong dollars ($4.78) per hour. But Wong said this new increase will make little difference in Hong Kong, consistently ranked one of the world’s most expensive cities. The city’s median hourly wage last year was 77.4 Hong Kong dollars ($9.86), according to the Census and Statistics Department. I ditched my commute on public transport to travel by electric scooter and e-bike instead. I love the intimate hustle and bustle of commuting on public transport: exchanging glances with strangers, awkward-but-warm smiles, and even the not-so-rare bumping of shoulders. Electric scooterThe Super Soco CPX electric scooter. If I were to switch from public transport to an e-bike or electric scooter, I'd be looking at a hefty outlay on equipment. If you were to ask me now whether I'd choose an e-bike or an electric scooter, I'd have to say both.
"A lot of people actually told us that it's a very bold move to actually open an offline presence, while everybody was closing their offline stores [during the pandemic]," she added. But that was a "well-calculated" move for Social Bella, which operates Sociolla. Indiana, the co-founder and chief marketing officer of Social Bella, tells CNBC Make It how she took her Jakarta-based startup to the next level. The makeup junkie realized that in Australia, she had easy access to a wide range of beauty products from international brands. On top of that, the business also operates Soco, which Social Bella says is Indonesia's largest online review service for beauty products.
After seeing her listing on the front page of Airbnb search results, other hosts in the area reached out for advice. Now, she runs an operation with six assistants that oversees 60 properties nationwide, from condos in Myrtle Beach to fishing cabins in Colorado. This strategy will only ultimately frustrate guests, Mosher said. In addition to bad reviews, hosts with an over-capacity space are increasing liability for their space and the wear and tear on their furniture. For example, instead of "Thanks for your message," Mosher sends guests: "Thank you for the fantastic communication, safe travels and happy adventures."
