Read previewFor months, Ukraine had been on the back foot in its war against Russia, with the Kremlin's forces slowly winning control of new territory. But last week, Ukraine turned the dynamic of the war on its head, launching an audacious incursion into Russia's Kursk province. However, the training provided by Ukraine's Western allies gave Ukraine the capacity to surprise and outmaneuver Russia. It's unclear exactly how Ukraine managed to take Russia by surprise with its Kursk attack. Military experts said that Ukraine had also exploited the sluggishness and rigidity of Russian military commanders, who scrambled to devise an effective response to the attack.

Read previewRussian military commanders are facing criticism over their botched response to Ukraine's audacious incursion into Russia's Kursk region. In a Telegram post on Friday, Russian military expert Vladislav Shurygin said that Ukraine had exposed serious problems with Russia's command. The Russian military has made slow but incremental progress in its campaign in the Donetsk region of east Ukraine recently, tempering criticism. Ukraine's Kursk incursion, though, has renewed questions about the effectiveness of Russia's military command, which, according to a March Congressional report, is often excessively rigid and slow to react to developments. The video, released Wednesday by the Kremlin, showed the Russian president was not happy with news from the southern region of Kursk. An expeditionary forceUkrainian troops, even if reinforced, cannot expect to occupy several hundred square kilometers of Russian territory. But holding a large chunk Russian territory is beyond their capacity and probably beyond their goal. “The unfolding events demonstrate the extent to which Moscow has deeply depended on sanctuary in Russian territory to wage its war against Ukraine,” Barros told CNN.

Bitcoin's blues could linger throughout July, but investors are still optimistic about the cryptocurrency in the second half of the year. July is usually a strong month for bitcoin, which has finished higher for the month in seven of the last 11 years, according to CoinGlass. "There are always other known potential sources of bitcoin supply from government for example, but it's always uncertain when that's coming to market. This week, the crypto market was startled when the U.S. and German governments sent large amounts of previously seized bitcoin to exchanges, according to CryptoQuant. Marion Laboure, senior strategist at Deutsche Bank Research, said growing demand for crypto ETFs will help keep bitcoin's price "elevated" in the months ahead.

China's manufacturing activity expanded for the first time in six months in March, an official factory survey showed on Sunday, offering relief to policymakers even as a crisis in the property sector remains a drag on the economy and confidence. New export orders rose into positive territory, breaking a 11-month slump, but employment continued to shrink, albeit at a slower rate, the PMI data showed. Premier Li Qiang announced an ambitious 2024 economic growth target of around 5% earlier this month at the annual meeting of the National People's Congress, China's rubber-stamp parliament. Citi on Thursday raised its economic growth forecast for China for this year to 5.0% from 4.6%, citing "recent positive data and policy delivery". China's cabinet on March 1 approved a plan aimed at promoting large-scale equipment upgrades and sales of consumer goods.

Read previewThe tight housing market has shown recent signs of easing, but Moody's Analytics still anticipates Americans will face inventory snags for years to come. Based on data from the end of December, the monthly sales pace implies 3.2 months' of housing inventory, according to the National Association of Realtors. That shortage suggests a recovery in the housing market remains years away, the researchers said. "One good year of 'excessive' supply was only in its relative term when compared with affordability-constrained demand," Moody's researchers said. Ultimately, to Moody's, increasing housing inventory and rebalancing the market will take years of "joint effort and creativity" across the public and private sectors.

Zelensky said the West's fears that supplying weapons would escalate the war cost Ukraine time, lives and opportunities. Nov 10 (Reuters) - Shares of advertising tech firm Trade Desk (TTD.O) plunged 19% on Friday following a quarterly revenue forecast dented by a slowdown in spending from labor strike-hit automakers and media companies. Trade Desk has what it calls "a marketplace" of more than 200 companies, including ESPN, Hulu and Fox, where advertisers can choose to show their ads. The company also caters to brands such as Warner Bros Discovery (WBD.O), which warned this week the sluggishness in advertising trends could continue into the next year. Trade Desk expects fourth-quarter revenue of at least $580 million, which was $30 million lower than estimates, according to LSEG data. "We appreciate the near-term conservatism and think that Trade Desk sits in a unique position to deliver defensibility in a deteriorating macro but also growth in an improving one," RBC Capital Markets analysts said.

Morgan Stanley (MS) reported better-than-expected third-quarter results Wednesday, even as investor disappointment over its wealth management business and the prolonged slump in investment banking weighed heavily on shares — prompting us to lower our price target on the Club holding. Bottom line Morgan Stanley shares plummeted by 6.6% Wednesday, to hit a new 52-week low of roughly $75 apiece.
