Protesters opposed to Tesla’s expansion of its plant near Berlin were holding out in trees Tuesday as German police climbed up ladders and cut down rope structures in an attempt to clear their forested camp. In May, the protesters clashed with police as some attempted to storm the facility, the US carmaker’s only European gigafactory, which employs some 12,000 staff. Led by the Disrupt Tesla group, protesters argue that plans to double the factory’s size will damage the environment. “There are still people in the trees here who are resisting,” said Mila, a spokesperson for the protest camp. Although some protesters had left of their own accord after police announced the clearance Tuesday, the police said “there are currently still people in trees and rope structures” and the effort to clear the camp was therefore ongoing.

Joshua Nix. Speaking alongside Kennedy, Australia’s chief of navy, Vice Adm. Mark Hammond, said the wreck was found with the help of advanced hydrographic survey capabilities aboard naval support ship MV Stoker. “Nix’s position was hopeless from the moment Edsall was sighted,” Cox wrote. The latest Consumer Confidence survey by The Conference Board showed 51.4% of participants — the highest level on record — expect stocks to rise over the next year. By early afternoon I was walking under the turning foliage of Rikugien, one of my favorite gardens, where I paused by a wooden sign at the edge of a stream. But with this magic at our fingertips, is the study of foreign languages now pointless? In fact, foreign languages are more rewarding than ever, in part because technology has made them easier than ever to learn. Growing up in rural Western Massachusetts, foreign languages were inseparable from the wonder I associated with globes and maps, and with the graceful airliners I dreamed of someday flying to distant places. The language I really fell for, though, is Japanese, which I first studied during a summer homestay in Kanazawa.
