One of the biggest bangs heard in the history of wine, on a May evening in 1976, caused barely a ripple in the home of Warren and Barbara Winiarski, the proprietors of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars in Napa Valley. The day before, a 1973 Stag’s Leap cabernet sauvignon had won a tasting in Paris that pitted some of the greatest French wines against bottles from upstart California. His article, “Judgment of Paris,” trumpeted a shocking David-over-Goliath triumph that gave the fledgling California wine business a swift dose of international credibility. “The unthinkable happened: California defeated all Gaul,” Mr. Taber wrote. Almost 50 years later, marketers are still using that tasting, re-enacting it countless times, to sell California wines around the world.

Dave & Buster’s did not respond to requests for comment, and it was not clear which specific games customers would be able to place bets on, or when the company would roll out the betting product, which will be available to people enrolled in the Dave & Buster’s loyalty program. On social media, people poked fun at the announcement, joking, for example, about whether customers might bet on such games as Skee-Ball. The age policies vary at each Dave & Buster’s location, but generally people under 18 years old can enter with a guardian. For example, professional golfers and tennis players pay an entry fee to compete and can win a cash prize. “If two people are competing against one another in Skee-Ball, presuming that there is nothing unusual done in the Skee-Ball game and physical skill is actually going to determine the winner, there is no problem,” Professor Edelman said.

Read previewIn November, my husband and I surprised our 9-year-old daughter and her 11-year-old cousin with a trip to the largest Great Wolf Lodge in the US. There are multiple Great Wolf Lodges in North America, but we visited the one in Perryville, Maryland, about an hour from Philadelphia. Great Wolf Lodge impressed me right off the batThe Great Wolf Lodge had a fairly simple booking process. The standard suite exceeded our expectationsGreat Wolf Lodge has double-queen rooms with simple decorations. Mario called Tupac. All he could do was listen to her cry as he explained that he didn't know when he'd be back. He didn't speak Spanish, didn't know a soul in Mexico, and had no clue where he would be sent. Mario didn't ask why, and the guy didn't inquire about Mario's predicament. "It's all good, man," Mario told Jimmy.

Some of their daughters echoed that reminder, adding that they think the trend has helped counteract ageism on TikTok, which has become more commonplace. She thinks younger generations view this trend as a glimpse into the future and what they could look like as mothers. “I think this has to be one of my favorite trends on TikTok that I’ve participated in,” Ramirez said. Her video, which has over 721,000 views, shows her mom in high-waisted jeans, a white cropped corset and heels. “That made me feel excited because I feel like it kind of boosted [her] confidence in a way,” Morris said.
We experienced so much stress related to my father, that happy spending was a lifeline. My mom stashed away money for joy like our lives depended on it. My mom made sacrifices so we could afford joyful 'nonessentials'Much of my childhood was spent terrorized by my sociopathic father. Her philosophy — that spending money on "non-essential" pick-me-ups is actually pretty damn essential — kept us mentally (and financially) afloat. The reason I deliberately budget joy into my expenses is because I know what it's like when you can't afford to.
