Amazon 's Ring will no longer allow police to request users' doorbell video footage in its neighborhood watch app. Ring in 2021 made police requests for user footage public in its Neighbors app. Previously, law enforcement could message users privately to request clips from their smart doorbell cameras. Jamie Siminoff, Ring's former CEO, couched the features as a public safety tool that would help communities. "My goal would be to have every law enforcement agency on the police portal," Siminoff told CBS in 2019.

After seven months in stealth, Aerodome recently closed a $6.5 million seed round led by Andreessen Horowitz and 2048 VC. Sidhu is currently a reserve officer for the Redondo Beach Police Department and was a full-time officer for two years. Competitors to Aerodome include Motorola, Dronesense, and Skydio, but those companies are more focused on software than the all-in-one package Aerodome is offering. Aside from responding to crime, Sidhu also says Aerodome will also eventually be able to detect wildfires and alert authorities moments after smoke appears. Aerodome has a contract to roll out a trial with Redondo Beach Police Department next month and Albuquerque Police Department in December.

Emmett Shear, the CEO of Amazon 's live streaming service Twitch, is stepping down from his role, effective immediately, the company announced Thursday. After buying Twitch, Amazon was largely hands-off with the business, though it has offered Prime subscribers perks on the live streaming platform, like free games and in-game loot. Shear will be replaced by Twitch President Dan Clancy, who has been a "close partner" to Shear, he wrote in a blog post. "Twitch will always remain part of my extended family, a community where I grew in so many ways alongside Twitch itself." Earlier this month, Ring CEO Jamie Siminoff announced he was stepping down from his role at the home security subsidiary.

Jamie Siminoff, the CEO of Amazon subsidiary Ring, is stepping down from the role later this month, the company announced Wednesday. Siminoff will take the role of chief inventor on March 22, and Elizabeth Hamren will succeed him as CEO. In addition to Ring, Hamren will also oversee Amazon Key, the company's in-home delivery service; shared network service Amazon Sidewalk; as well as Blink, another maker of home security cameras that Amazon acquired in 2017. The move comes five years after Amazon acquired Ring for a reported $1 billion in 2018. The program allows police and fire departments to request video footage recorded by Ring cameras.
