China willing to be partners, friends with US, Chinese envoy says

The national flags of the United States and China flutter at the Fairmont Peace Hotel on April 25, 2024 in Shanghai, China. China is willing to be partners and friends with the United States, China's ambassador to Washington said, seeking to strengthen dialogue between the world's two largest economies. China has no plan to surpass or replace the United States, Xie Feng said in a speech in Hong Kong on Friday, addressing Chinese officials and the U.S. ambassador to China. Chinese President Xi Jinping called on Friday for rejecting unilateralism and protectionism in favour of economic globalisation. However, some analysts say China's pitch as a counterbalance to a Trump-led United States has lost its shine compared to 2016, when Trump was first elected.

One way to address election anxiety is to talk about the political system and encourage long-term engagement. Kids as young as 3 can pick up on political divides, Magavi says, so it's important to facilitate open conversation. Brescher Shea teaches her own sons, 4 and 7, how to be engaged citizens by writing to lawmakers, attending rallies, and, of course, thinking about voting. AdvertisementRussia's retaking territory in Kursk, but efforts to drive the Ukrainian forces out of the country will likely only get more difficult. Ukrainian troops invaded the Kursk region in southwestern Russia in August, and at one point, they held roughly 500 square miles of Russian territory. Russia's response to the shock assault was slow, but a larger effort to drive the Ukrainians out is now underway. Michael Bohnert, a warfare expert at RAND Corporation, told BI Ukraine doesn't have to defend Russian cities. Russia's military is larger than Ukraine's, which means that the more resources Russia uses, the harder it will be to defend.

Israel and Hezbollah each have lessons from their last war, in 2006, a monthlong conflict that ended in a draw. A United Nations resolution ending the war called for withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanon and a demilitarized zone on Lebanon's side of the border. Israeli political and military leaders have warned Hezbollah that war is increasingly probable unless the militants withdraw from the border. Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah hasn't threatened to initiate war but warned of a fight “without limits” if Israel does. Costs would rise sharply if there's war with Lebanon.

Stengs grabs hat-trick as Dutch thrash Gibraltar 6-0

FARO, Portugal, Nov 21 (Reuters) - Netherlands' Calvin Stengs netted a hat-trick as they easily disposed of Gibraltar 6-0 in their Euro 2024 qualifier on Tuesday although the Dutch did not come anywhere near to France’s record score at the weekend. Mats Wieffer, Teun Koopmeiners and substitute Cody Gakpo added the other goals for an experimental Dutch side completing their qualifying campaign, having already secured their place at next year’s finals in Germany. Stengs had the Dutch ahead in the 10th minute and added two more after the break, completing his treble with a strong left- foot effort inside the penalty box. The Dutch goal haul, however, was nothing near the 14 that France scored against Gibraltar in Nice on Saturday to set a record in the European Championship qualifiers. They finished second behind France in Group B while Gibraltar ended bottom after losing all eight games, conceding 41 and failing to score.
