This month, Nima became the youngest person to summit all 14 of the world’s highest peaks, but the 18-year-old Nepalese mountaineer is already getting ready for his next big feat. His father, Tashi Lakpa Sherpa, has climbed Everest nine times, and at age 19 became the youngest person to summit without bottled oxygen. His uncle Mingma Sherpa became the first South Asian climber to summit the 14 peaks in 2011. Despite his record-breaking achievement, Nima’s climbs did not attract big-name sponsors, and he relied on his father’s 14 Peaks Expedition company for funds and logistical support. Dawa Yangzum Sherpa became the youngest Nepalese woman to climb the 14 peaks.

CNN —A Nepalese teenager has become the youngest person to summit the world’s 14 highest peaks. Nima started his epic journey in September 2022 when he climbed Nepal’s 8,163m Manaslu. Over the next two years, he summited all of the “8000ers” including Everest, the world’s highest mountain at 8,848.86m, and the notoriously dangerous K2 at 8,611m. Nima took to Instagram to commemorate the completion of the grueling challenge, writing: “I dedicate this world record to my project, #SherpaPower. Two climbers vied to become the first US female to reach the peak of the world's 14 tallest mountains. They were hit by avalanches on their final peak in southern Tibet and died, per reports. Shishapangma, at just over 8,000 metres (26,247 feet), is the world's 14th tallest peak. Two avalanches hit its slopes at elevations of 7,600 metres and 8,000 metres on Saturday, killing American climber Anna Gutu and Nepalese guide Mingmar Sherpa, Xinhua reported on Sunday. All climbing activity on Shishapangma was suspended because of the unstable snow conditions. Had one of the Pakistani climbers, Sirbaz Khan, reached the top of Shishapangma he would have become the first Pakistani to summit all 14 mountains over 8,000 metres. Among those who had previously died on Shishapangma was famed American climber Alex Lowe in 1999, also because of an avalanche.

“They have become the fastest to climb all 14 peaks,” Tashi, told Reuters, quoting information from the base camp. Climbing all 14 highest peaks in a few months is a challenging feat, which is normally done by many climbers in years. They set the fastest climbing record by beating Nirmal Purja from Nepal who completed all peaks in six months and one week in 2019. "They have made a summit a short while ago," Madison told Reuters adding that the Norwegian woman was "extremely tough mentally and physically". One of the sherpas, the 17-year-old Nima Rinjin Sherpa, also becomes the youngest to climb K2, Tashi said.

A Sherpa fell on Carlos Soria, injuring his tibia, a message posted on his behalf on his Twitter and Facebook accounts said. The climber, who was on his 15th attempt on Mt Dhaulagiri, was preparing to make a push for the summit when the incident occurred, the Himalayan Times newspaper said.
