DENVER (AP) — Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes are closing in on adding Cincinnati Bengals secondary coach Robert Livingston as defensive coordinator, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press on Wednesday. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the team has not finalized the hiring. Livingston is set to inherit a Colorado defense that surrendered 34.8 points and 453.3 yards per game in Sanders' first season in charge. Livingston started as a scout with the Bengals in 2012 before later joining their coaching staff. In Colorado, he would work with a secondary that includes Travis Hunter, a first-team All-Pac-12 defensive back who also plays wide receiver, and Shilo Sanders.

DENVER (AP) — Deion Sanders reinvigorated a fanbase and put a downtrodden football program back on the map in his first season at Colorado. It was a roller-coaster inaugural season as Sanders took over a 1-11 Colorado team. The Buffaloes sprinted out of the gate, going 3-0 and becoming the the talk of college football. This marks the seventh time Deion Sanders has appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated, five times as a player and one other time when he was coach at Jackson State. “On and off the field, he represents a new model for the modern college coach.”___AP college football: https://apnews.com/hub/ap-top-25-college-football-poll and https://apnews.com/hub/college-football

Hunter led the Buffaloes with 13 catches for 140 yards and two touchdowns in his first game in nearly a month, and he collected five solo tackles on defense. Hunter celebrated his much-anticipated return to action with a 24-yard catch-and-run touchdown in the first quarter. When the Buffaloes started out on defense against Stanford (2-4, 1-3), Hunter received a big hug from his coach as he trotted out to play cornerback. When the Buffaloes forced a quick punt and got the ball for the first time, Hunter lined up wide right. Hunter returned to the game but later left to go to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a lacerated liver.

CNN —After his team’s first victory earlier this month, University of Colorado football coach Deion Sanders said something remarkable. He has entered one of the Whitest and most conservative institutions in America — college football — and excelled. It’s no secret the league has had a poor record of hiring Black coaches. Ron Jenkins/Getty ImagesHe’s brought an “audacious Blackness” to college football that’s revolutionary, one commentator says. In many ways, the profession at this level has become welfare for white coaches.

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — Deion Sanders stood up for Henry Blackburn on Tuesday after the Colorado State safety received death threats for a late hit that sent Colorado's two-way star Travis Hunter to the hospital with a lacerated liver. Sanders said he has forgiven Blackburn and so has Hunter, who doesn’t have a definitive timeline for a return. “Henry Blackburn is a good player who played a phenomenal game,” said Sanders, whose 19th-ranked Buffaloes (3-0) travel to No. “I’m saddened if there’s any of our fans, that’s on the other side of those threats," Sanders said. It was the most-watched late-night college football game ever on ESPN, the network said.

18 Colorado rallied to beat Colorado State 43-35 early Sunday in front of a full house packed with celebrities. Sanders connected with Harrison for an 18-yard score and then found an open Xavier Weaver on the 2-point conversion. After the game, Sanders and Norvell shook hands near midfield amid a sea of fans. “This rivalry has been going on way longer before I got here,” said Norvell, who's in his second season at Colorado State. Colorado State put a bye week to good use by finding ways to contain Sanders and the explosive Colorado offense for most of the game.

Millions of Mormon crickets have arrived in Elko, Nev., the spindly copper creatures blanketing parts of the city, so staff members at the Shilo Inns Elko on Saturday discussed ways to combat them. Hotel workers poured a hot water mix of vinegar, bleach and dish soap. They even aimed pressure washers at the brown clusters of exoskeletons. Finally, Kimmy Hall, the general manager of Shilo Inns, told her overwhelmed staff: “We can’t win against them. But we can hold them off.”Such has been the mood in Elko, a city of roughly 20,000 residents, as it’s been infested with Mormon crickets, which have recently hatched and are in a migratory phase.
