Skulls found on a New Mexico property earlier this month were obtained online and are not related to the case of a woman who went missing in 2019, the Lea County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday. Human remains were found after a search of a property associated with the man in Jal, a city of around 2,000 in the southeastern part of the state, the sheriff's office said last week. The medical examiner determined the remains found on the property had "no medical or legal significance," the sheriff's office said. On Nov. 12, shortly after the discovery of the remains, the sheriff's office said it could be related to Angela McManes, who disappeared in 2019. Two days later, the sheriff's office said there did not appear to be a link between the skulls and McManes beyond the proximity of her home to the property where the skulls were found.

A Maryland man recently made a remarkable discovery in the Chesapeake Bay: An almost-whole human skeleton that appears to be at least a century old. NBC Washington reported George Oliver, who lives in Calvert County, was walking the shores of the bay on Nov. 4, looking for fossils, as he usually does. Oliver told the station that he could see the coffin, but that it was completely submerged in water. "When I first found it, you could not tell that there was human remains," Oliver told NBC Washington. When he found the coffin, Oliver assumed that leg bone might have been a part of the newly-discovered skeleton.

A later search found multiple 3D-printed “ghost guns” without serial numbers, semi-automatic rifles, handguns and shotguns. The use of ghost guns is on the rise across the country with the Biden administration telling the Supreme Court that police departments have faced an “explosion of crimes involving ghost guns” in recent years. CNN —A group of people carrying Nazi flags demonstrated outside a community theater performance of “The Diary of Anne Frank” in Livingston County, Michigan, in a display of antisemitism. Several masked men showed up waving Nazi flags and reportedly shouted antisemitic and racist slurs outside the American Legion Post 141 in Howell on Saturday during the play, according to CNN affiliate WXYZ. “The Diary of Anne Frank” was published posthumously and has been translated into more than 70 languages in more than 60 nations, with several film and stage adaptations. Her diary is often a teen’s first introduction to the horrors of the Holocaust during World War II. In July, a statue of Anne in a local park was vandalized with the word “Gaza” scrawled in red paint.

Ryan Borgwardt — a married father of two — went missing on Aug. 12 and his last known location was Green Lake, Green Lake County Sheriff Mark Podoll said during a news briefing Friday. Deputies found a capsized kayak in the lake and Borgwardt's vehicle and trailer parked in Dodge Memorial County Park, Podoll said. Courtesy Green Lake County Sheriff's OfficePodol said the investigation took a turn when it was discovered that Borgwardt’s passport was “run” on Aug. 13., the day after he disappeared. "Due to these discoveries of the new evidence, we were sure that Ryan was not in our lake," Podoll said. Podoll said the investigation into Borgwardt's disappearance still has a lot of missing pieces, including a motive, and where he is right now.

Nicholas Wayne Hamlett, 45, was detained without incident on Sunday in Columbia, South Carolina, after being recognized at a local hospital, according to the sheriff’s office in Monroe County, Tennessee. Hamlett has pending charges for first-degree murder out of Monroe County, Tennessee, and a parole violation out of Alabama, the sheriff’s office said in a statement. Investigators also discovered Hamlett had been using Andrade’s identification and that he was wanted in Alabama on a parole violation, the sheriff’s office said. He had a mental health disorder and “was known to leave home and live on the streets,” the sheriff’s office said. Steven Douglas Lloyd, 34, was identified as the victim by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office in Tennessee.

An 84-year-old man was arrested this week in connection with the slaying of a female hitchhiker 50 years ago in Wisconsin. Dunn County Sheriff's officeThe Minneapolis, woman was killed while hitchhiking to an art show in Chicago, Sheriff Kevin Bygd said Friday. But through forensic genetic genealogy, Bygd said investigators tracked down Jon Miller, 84, at his apartment in Owatonna, Minnesota. Miller was awaiting extradition to Wisconsin, Bygd said. Last month, authorities in Arizona announced they used genetic genealogy to identify a John Doe whose remains were found near the Hoover Dam more than a decade ago.
