SANTA CLARA, Calif. — San Francisco 49ers rookie receiver Ricky Pearsall returned to the field for practice on Monday for the first time since he was shot in the chest during an attempted robbery nine days before the season opener. The 49ers opened a window for Pearsall to begin practicing with the team while he remains on the non-football injury list. “I saw him warming up and I started smiling because I know how big of a factor he can be for the team,” rookie guard Dominick Puni said. Pearsall was shot in the chest during a robbery attempt in San Francisco’s Union Square area and was hospitalized overnight. He avoided damage to any organs and nerves and was back working out at the team facility the following week.

Santa Clara, California (AP) — San Francisco 49ers rookie receiver Ricky Pearsall returned to the field for practice on Monday for the first time since he was shot in the chest during an attempted robbery nine days before the season opener. The 49ers opened a window for Pearsall to begin practicing with the team while he remains on the non-football injury list. “I saw him warming up and I started smiling because I know how big of a factor he can be for the team,” rookie guard Dominick Puni said. Pearsall was shot in the chest during a robbery attempt in San Francisco’s Union Square area and was hospitalized overnight. He avoided damage to any organs and nerves and was back working out at the team facility the following week.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey has been ruled out of this weekend’s game for the San Francisco 49ers because of his lingering calf and Achilles’ injuries and could be headed to injured reserve. McCaffrey was held out of practice on Friday, a day after experiencing pain in practice. He was then ruled out of the game Sunday against Minnesota after expressing hope earlier in the week that he could play. Addison had seven catches for 123 yards and two TDs in a win against San Francisco last season. In other injury news for San Francisco, defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos is set to play after missing the opener with a knee injury.

CNN —The San Francisco 49ers put in a dominant showing to beat the New York Jets 32-19 on Monday, spoiling Aaron Rodgers’ return to NFL action. Rodgers returned to NFL action for the first time since Week 1 last season. Thearon W. However, the Jets offense then struggled to produce much until late in the third by which point San Francisco had built up a comfortable lead. PHOENIX — Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s campaign told a Pennsylvania court that he will be endorsing former President Donald Trump, ahead of his own Friday afternoon announcement putting to rest a tumultuous independent presidential campaign. The filing came shortly before Kennedy took the stage at an Arizona press conference where he announced the end his presidential campaign. The Kennedy campaign spent more than $8 million on campaign consulting from Accelevate 2020 LLC, a group that also does ballot-access work. Overall, the campaign effectively raised what it spent — it amassed $57.6 million and spent almost $54 million through July. Federal campaign finance records show Kennedy’s campaign spent more than $3 million on security services provided by Gavin de Becker, a prominent security consultant protecting celebrities who is also a Kennedy supporter and friend.
