The 15th-century explorer Christopher Columbus was a Sephardic Jew from Western Europe, Spanish scientists said on Saturday, after using DNA analysis to tackle a centuries-old mystery. Other theories range from him being a Spanish Jew or a Greek, to Basque, Portuguese or British. They compared them with those of known relatives and descendants and their findings were announced in a documentary titled “Columbus DNA: The true origin” on Spain’s national broadcaster TVE on Saturday. After analysing 25 possible places, Lorente said it was only possible to say Columbus was born in Western Europe. On Thursday, Lorente said they had confirmed previous theories that the remains in Seville Cathedral belonged to Columbus.

Airbus reported lower monthly deliveries late on Wednesday, putting its annual production target under pressure as supply chain struggles continue to plague the industry. The company said at the time it was facing "persistent specific supply chain issues mainly in engines, aerostructures and cabin equipment." For September it picked up another 235 orders, taking the annual total to 648. But production challenges and supply chain shortages across the whole aviation industry mean that manufacturers cannot get planes out as fast as they want. CNN —Each of the 32 colossal stones that make up the Menga Dolmen, a 5,600-year-old megalithic monument in southern Spain, is many times bigger than the largest megaliths at Stonehenge, the most famous Neolithic wonder. The upright stones that make up the walls of the chamber were not perfectly vertical, tilting inward at a gentle angle to make the building narrower at the roof than at the floor and creating a trapezoid-shaped chamber. The team calculated that each of the upright stones lean inward at a largely uniform angle of 84 to 85 degrees. The upright stones that form the walls also lean sideways against one another at a consistent angle. The Menga Dolmen sits atop a hill near Antequera, Spain.

Sixty metres into the men’s 100-metre Olympic final in Paris and Noah Lyles is third. The final frontier for him to become Olympic champion was the start… so here’s the story of how a 75-year-old and a stickman helped give Lyles the edge. The 27-year-old from Virginia won his first Olympic gold medal Sunday by bolting to the 100-meter title in a personal-best 9.79 seconds in front of a deafening, sold-out Stade de France crowd. Lyles froze when it showed he had prevailed by one of the narrowest margins — five-thousandths of a second. Lyles is the first American to win the Olympic 100-meter since 2004. By the finish time, it was one of the hardest gold medals to earn, too.
