The two-stage megarocket — which features the Starship spacecraft stacked atop the Super Heavy booster — will attempt liftoff during a 30-minute window that opens at 5 p.m. If the test flight team deems conditions are favorable for a landing attempt, booster touchdown should occur about seven minutes after launch. Joe Skipper/ReutersThe Starship spacecraft, meanwhile, will fire up its own six engines before entering a coasting phase as it soars through space. During the fourth integrated Starship test flight in early June, the spacecraft endured significant damage. “In 2025, SpaceX plans to undertake a long-duration flight test and a propellant transfer flight test,” according to a recent report from NASA’s Office of the Inspector General, or OIG.

It’s likely to face legal challenges, which means its implementation could be delayed or even blocked in court, like the Texas law that inspired it has been so far. In addition to Iowa’s new law, Cid says several recent immigration proposals in the state failed to clear the legislature. This bill gives Iowa law enforcement the power to do what he is unwilling to do: enforce immigration laws already on the books. A similar trend unfolded after Arizona passed a controversial immigration law in 2010, says Anand Balakrishnan, a senior staff attorney at the American Civil Liberties Union’s Immigrant Rights Project. Estefania Mondragon, executive director of PODER of Idaho, hopes a proposed immigration law won't pass there.

Photographer: Sergio Flores/Bloomberg via Getty ImagesOil prices rose in early trade on Friday following a decision by OPEC+ to keep its oil output policy unchanged, clawing back some losses from the previous trading session triggered by unsubstantiated ceasefire reports between Israel and Hamas. Both contracts settled more than 2% lower on Thursday due to the unverified ceasefire reports between Israel and Hamas. On Thursday, two OPEC+ sources said the group has kept its oil output policy unchanged, and will decide in March whether or not to extend the voluntary oil production cuts in place for the first quarter. Lower interest rates would reduce consumer borrowing costs, which can boost economic growth and oil demand.

Donald Trump Photo: sergio flores/ReutersDonald Trump romped to victory in the Iowa caucuses on Monday night, launching the former President on his quest for a third GOP nomination. The vote nonetheless revealed weaknesses that could pose problems in a general election, so Republicans in New Hampshire should think hard if they want to gamble on another Trump run. Mr. Trump’s victory was the widest in Iowa caucus history for a non-incumbent race, with close to 51% of the vote at this writing. Ron DeSantis with about 21% was running slightly ahead of Nikki Haley for a distant second. The result is a show of organizational strength that Mr. Trump didn’t have in 2016 when he lost the state to Ted Cruz .

An attorney for SolarWinds calls the SEC’s lawsuit ‘overreach.’ Photo: sergio flores/ReutersThe Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday sued SolarWinds , the software company victimized by Russian-linked hackers over three years ago, alleging the firm defrauded shareholders by repeatedly misleading them about its cyber vulnerabilities and the ability of attackers to penetrate its systems. The SEC’s lawsuit is a milestone in its evolving attempt to regulate how public companies deal with cybersecurity. A hack that steals business secrets or customer data often pummels the victim company’s stock price, showing why firms with public shareholders have to accurately disclose such threats, the SEC says. The regulator recently imposed stricter cybersecurity reporting rules for public companies.

Older adults, many of whom have saved their entire careers for retirement, can have the most to lose. The Covid pandemic was a disproportionate threat to older adults, keeping Americans indoors and quickly pushing them online. Outcomes hinge on a complex web of federal and state rules that govern banking and elder financial fraud. Such "heightened procedures" to protect older adults are part of the bank's duty of care relative to older customers, the lawsuit said. Who Qualified for the Second GOP Debate?

Republican candidates are gearing up for the second GOP presidential debate, as they look to chip away at former President Donald Trump’s comfortable lead with less than four months before the first nominating contest. After a raucous first debate in Milwaukie last month, the candidates are set to return to the debate stage for a two-hour event at 9 p.m. To qualify for the second debate, a candidate must poll at least 3% in two national polls or 3% in one national poll and one poll from an early state poll in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada or South Carolina, according to rules set by the Republican National Committee. In addition to the polling and fundraising requirements, the candidates must also have taken a loyalty pledge in order to participate in the debate, which all eight candidates who participated in the first debate completed. With that pledge, which has been somewhat controversial among the candidates, GOP presidential hopefuls must sign a statement that they will support the eventual Republican nominee.

CNN —Walt Disney Parks and Resorts has amended its lawsuit against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and his hand-picked oversight board, dropping all of its claims except one. The lawsuit, filed in federal court, now focuses solely on the claim that DeSantis and his allies allegedly weaponized their political power to retaliate against the company for exercising its First Amendment right to free speech. The amended lawsuit claims that DeSantis has illegally punished the company since it spoke out. In May, the oversight board voted to file its own lawsuit against Disney to maintain its control of the district. The amended lawsuit comes less than one month after DeSantis encouraged Disney to drop its lawsuit in an interview with CNBC.

Tim Scott has a window of opportunity in the Republican presidential primary race as the top two polling candidates face their own unique challenges. The expanding legal entanglements confronting former President Donald Trump and the stalled campaign of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis could prompt some Republicans to look harder at alternatives before the Jan. 15 Iowa caucuses kick off the nomination process. Unlike some of the more combative candidates in the race, Scott offers an optimistic message, generally refrains from attacking rivals, and is almost universally liked among GOP primary voters who see him on the campaign trail. Now he has to convince them that they like him enough to support him.
