A video of a digitally created giant Barbie doll next to the Burj Khalifa in Dubai was misleadingly shared online as a real-life installation of the doll in front of the world’s tallest building.
Facebook posts linked the video to the Blue Beam conspiracy theory (here) and (here).
A Georgia-based fact-checking platform Myth Detector, reviewed the Blue Beam theory in 2021, concluding that it originated in a 1994 book called ‘Project Blue Beam’ by Canadian journalist and conspiracy theorist Serge Monast.
Mattel, manufacturer of the Barbie doll, did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
