CNN —As he climbed up the 500-foot rockface El Matador, wedging small pieces of metal into the rock in the hope they would catch his fall, Jesse Dufton was almost entirely alone.
“On El Matador … I wouldn’t say that I was utterly terrified.
It took just a day for Dufton and his wife Molly to climb El Matador, climbing the monolith’s cracks, columns and overhangs to make him the first blind climber ever to achieve the feat.
Dufton and his wife Molly have been climbing together since they met.
“My finger strength isn’t that great, but my endurance is incredible,” says Dufton, whose climbing has earned him support from outdoors brands including Montane.
