CNN —A group of scientists has devised a plan to safeguard Earth’s species in a cryogenic biorepository on the moon. In order to reach the required temperatures on earth, a supply of liquid nitrogen, electricity and human staff are required. To reduce this risk, Hagedorn and the team thought about how cryopreservation could be achieved passively, which is impossible on Earth, and alighted on the moon. “We aren’t saying what if the Earth fails – if the Earth is biologically destroyed this biorepository won’t matter,” Hagedorn said in the statement. Sally Keith, a senior lecturer in Marine Biology at Lancaster University, who was not involved in the research, had similar concerns.

Preikestolen, known in English as “Pulpit Rock” is a cliff in southwestern Norway overlooking the Lysefjord. Although it is “the most iconic natural landmark in Norway,” according to the non-profit which manages the site, Preikestolen grew in fame when it was featured in the sixth “Mission Impossible” film, starring Tom Cruise. CNN —Police launched an investigation Wednesday into the fire that tore through Copenhagen’s famous stock exchange building, causing the collapse of its spire and damaging centuries-old artwork and architecture. “It gives me hope because we have decided to rebuild the stock exchange because it’s part of European history as a trading continent,” he said. The old stock exchange – located only a few minutes walk from Christiansborg Palace – dates back to 1625. It was built in the Dutch Renaissance style at the request of King Christian IV and had recently been undergoing renovations with its facade covered in scaffolding and protective coverings. It has been at the heart of Danish business since then; while it no longer houses the Danish stock exchange, it serves as the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce.

Denmark's Crown Prince Frederik will take over from his mother, Queen Margrethe II, when she formally steps down as monarch on Sunday. His forename was chosen in line with the Danish royal custom of the heir apparent being named either Frederik or Christian. Crown Prince Frederik began his military education in 1986 in the Queen's Life Guard Regiment. “Crown Prince Frederik is a much more informal person than his mother,” said historian Lars Hovbakke Sørensen.

Researchers have proposed an explanation for how the patterns form based on the "Turing patterns." A question naturally arises: How can distinct color patterns form in the presence of diffusion? Our work suggests that combining the conditions that form Turing patterns with diffusiophoresis could also form the basis of artificial skin patches. Just like adaptive skin patterns in animals, when Turing patterns change — say from hexagons to stripes — this indicates underlying differences in chemical concentrations inside or outside the body. CNN —At the top of the world, northern Greenland’s huge glaciers — long thought to be relatively stable — are in trouble, a new study shows. As the ocean warms, Greenland’s last remaining ice shelves are rapidly weakening, destabilizing the nearby glaciers and threatening potentially “dramatic” consequences for sea level rise, according to the study published Tuesday in Nature Communications. When they melt and weaken, more of the land-based ice is able to slide into the ocean, adding to sea level rise. Since 1978, the ice shelves supporting northern Greenland’s glaciers have lost more than 35% of their total volume, according to the study. After the collapse of the Zachariæ Isstrøm glacier’s ice shelf in 2003, the ice discharge into the ocean doubled, according to the study.
