CNN —A Miami-bound Scandinavian Airlines flight was forced to return to Europe on Thursday after encountering severe turbulence over Greenland, according to the airline. No severe injuries were reported among passengers or crew on flight SK957, the airline said in a statement to CNN Friday. The plane was rerouted to Copenhagen Airport in Denmark where it will undergo an inspection, according to the airline. A woman who was seated near him did not have her seatbelt on when the turbulence started, according to Solstad. Turbulence is the leading cause of injuries to flight attendants and passengers in nonfatal accidents on commercial airlines, according to the Federal Aviation Administration, but incidents are still rare.

Scandinavian Airlines, a Sweden-based carrier, recently announced the opportunity for members of its EuroBonus loyalty program to book a flight experience they call "Destination Unknown." In a press release, the airline says that "within minutes" of the announcement on February 12, over 1,000 members signed up for the surprise flight. SAS filed for U.S. bankruptcy protection last year as it struggled to slash costs and debt amid strikes by pilots. SAS hopes to raise 9.5 billion Swedish crowns ($863 million) in new equity and convert 20 billion crowns of debt into equity. They could include Sweden's family-owned Wallenberg foundation, which currently holds a 3.4% stake in SAS, or Danish pension funds, he said. Once that is done, SAS can begin proceedings to exit chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, which could be late this year or next year, Pedersen said.
