Every year, nearly 10,000 electricians either retire or change careers, but only about 7,000 new ones enter the field. "We're benefitting from a generation that's looking past high school and is not seeing a career going through the traditional four-year college pathway. Contributing to that shift are high school guidance counselors like Steve Schneider, who has advised students for 28 years, currently at Sheboygan South High School in Wisconsin. It offers high school students hands-on training alongside workers from local companies, introducing them to skilled trades and other occupations, which can lead to an apprenticeship after graduation. Among LATTC's 12,000 students, 4,600 are currently enrolled in electrician training, he said, adding that tuition is around $1,000 a year.

Flexport plans to integrate Deliverr, an e-commerce fulfillment company Shopify acquired for $2.1 billion last year, into its global logistics offering. Clark called the Shopify assets the "last piece" the company needed to extend its reach from the manufacturer to the end consumer. It may be the last acquisition needed to complete a "port to porch" service, as Clark described it. In fact, Clark said Amazon could be a compliment or partner to Flexport soon after announcing the Shopify deal. Yea," he said about the kind of end-to-end service Flexport is planning.
CNN and the GVA define a mass shooting as a shooting that injures or kills four or more people, not including the shooter. They argue that more firearms and higher gun ownership increases public safety – a stance that continues to be at odds with gun violence experts and data. The area around the Robb Elementary School signs has become a memorial dedicated to the victims of the May 24 mass shooting. Mass shootings are just a piece of that, and the strategies that we’re laying out will impact mass shootings. They’ll also impact a lot of other types of gun violence and that’s absolutely critical to saving lives,” Horwitz said.
CNN —Seven people remain hospitalized in Brownsville, Texas, as a candlelight vigil is planned Tuesday in another Texas border town for the eight others who were killed when a vehicle plowed into a group of people at a bus stop over the weekend. The fatal crash comes as Brownsville and other border towns brace for a migrant surge when the public health emergency measure known as Title 42 lapses on Thursday. A memorial site set up after a deadly crash at a bus stop in Brownsville, Texas, seen on Monday. Romero said that after the crash, the driver got out of his vehicle and appeared to be impaired. The driver was uncooperative after the crash and gave authorities different names, Brownsville Police spokesman Martin Sandoval said.

Photo: Michael Gonzalez/Associated PressA 34-year-old man was charged with manslaughter and aggravated assault after the vehicle he was allegedly driving plowed into a group of people Sunday in Brownsville, Texas, killing eight and injuring at least 10 near a homeless shelter housing migrants, authorities said. George Alvarez faces eight counts of manslaughter and 10 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, Brownsville Police Chief Felix Sauceda said Monday. His bail was set at $3.6 million.
May 8 (Reuters) - A Texas man accused of mowing down a group of pedestrians with his SUV near a Brownsville homeless shelter that attends to migrants was charged on Monday with eight counts of manslaughter, police said. Responding to a question from a reporter, Sauceda said investigators have not ruled out that the crash was intentional. The driver attempted to flee the scene after impact but was held down by several bystanders, Sauceda said. Alvarez, who was also charged with 10 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, has an extensive criminal history, the chief said. A video circulating online purporting to show the crash shows a speeding SUV plowing into a row of people sitting on the curb.
A day after a sport-utility vehicle plowed through a group of migrants in Brownsville, Texas, killing eight people, police officials identified the man behind the wheel as George Alvarez and said they were still trying to determine whether the crash was intentional. Mr. Alvarez has been charged with eight counts of manslaughter, 10 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and reckless driving, and is remaining behind bars, Chief Felix Sauceda of the Brownsville Police said on Monday. His gray Range Rover SUV struck about 20 people near a bus stop. Chief Sauceda said the police were investigating reports that Mr. Alvarez had yelled anti-immigration epithets at the group. More criminal charges could be added, he said, if investigators determine that the crash was deliberate.
Shopify rolled out the latest iteration of its e-commerce logistics service Thursday. Shopify Logistics is a "port to porch" logistics service for even the smallest merchants. Flexport will allow Shopify merchants to get "front of the line access," to space on container ships they'd struggle to get otherwise, Brown said. Shopify rolled the badge, a direct competitor to Amazon's Prime shipping program and its newer "Buy with Prime" feature, out last year and expanded it to all Shopify sellers Thursday. A lot of e-commerce businesses with good products "flame out" because they simply can't hack the operations, Sauceda said.
