San Francicso 49ers kicker Jake Moody could've crawled into the San Andreas Fault and still not had enough cover for the heat he took following a bad game that's about to cap an equally poor season. Moody missed two field goals and an extra point before comically butchering an onside kick in his team's 40-34 loss to the visiting Detroit Lions on "Monday Night Football." After three consecutive appearances in the NFC title game, San Francisco has fallen into last place in the NFC West this season. After that first missed field goal, "Monday Night Football" cameras caught 49ers tight end George Kittle exchanging encouraging words with Moody on the sidelines. Moody is 21-of-32 this season and his 71.9% conversion rate is among the lowest in pro football.

He marveled at the efficiency of the African oil palm, which can produce five times as much edible oil per acre as corn or soy. As environmental activists raised the alarm about the palm oil industry's toll on the tropical forests of Southeast Asia two decades ago, Unilever, the world's largest buyer of palm oil, teamed up with the World Wildlife Fund and other parties to establish the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil. Six years later, as a member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil, they sold that operation to Felda Global Ventures, the third-largest palm oil company in the world, for almost $200 million. Not only was García's government offering sweetheart deals to foreign investors under its National Plan to Promote Oil Palm, but the country had more than 3 million acres suitable for oil palm. It was Washington Bolívar, the activist who had helped Ucayali's Indigenous communities fight the palm oil plantations.

Santa Clara, California AP —A man who kidnapped and sexually assaulted a Northern California woman in what became widely known as the “Gone Girl” kidnapping has been charged with two 15-year-old home invasion sexual assaults, prosecutors announced Monday. Prosecutors allege Matthew Muller, 47, broke into a woman’s home in Mountain View, California, in September 2009, attacked her, tied her up and made her drink medications. Muller, a disbarred, Harvard-educated attorney, pleaded guilty to the 2015 kidnapping of Denise Huskins. Huskins and Quinn were victims in the bizarre Vallejo kidnapping case in March 2015. Investigators dropped that theory after Muller was arrested by police in Dublin, California, for a similar home invasion.

Until four years ago, Intel was the world's most valuable chipmaker, nearing a $300 billion market cap in early 2020. While 2024 has been a breakout year for Broadcom — AI revenue increased 220% — the month of December has put it in record territory. Will Ferrell caused a bit of a stir on Sunday when he attended the Philadelphia Flyers-Los Angeles Kings game in Los Angeles while dressed as Buddy the Elf from his hit 2003 movie “Elf.”Ferrell didn’t appear quite as wholesome as his alter ego was in the movie, though. He also looked a bit grizzled, perhaps from all the work he just wrapped up working as Santa’s helper. His presence at the Kings game was a gift for fans who were amused at the sight of a rundown looking Ferrell. Ferrell may have been a good luck charm for the Kings, too.
