On Wednesday, ABC announced that Sorokin — who in 2019 was convicted of conning banks, hotels, and individuals out of money by posing as a European heiress named Anna Delvey — would join the cast of "Dancing With the Stars" season 33. Sorokin finished her prison sentence (which she previously called "a huge waste of time") for her crimes in February 2021. Shortly after she was released from prison, an immigration judge put her under house arrest in New York and banned her from using social media. CNN —The Biden administration will restart deporting Venezuelans directly to Venezuela in an attempt to curb the record influx of crossings at the US-Mexico border, according to senior administration officials, marking a major shift in policy. “Repatriations are a key piece to this balanced approach.”Thursday’s announcement is the latest effort by the Biden administration to try to discourage migration to the US-Mexico border, while highlighting other lawful pathways available to certain migrants who want to migrate to the US. It’s also a recognition of the complicated – and unique – challenge for the Biden administration as it faces a historic wave of Venezuelan migrants. Mexico has agreed to take some, but it remains a difficult issue for administration and for cities receiving migrants. Venezuela was among the topics of discussion between President Joe Biden and Brazil President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva last month.

To boost his profile, Zuberi also donated to, or hired, several Washington advocacy groups, lobbying shops and public relations firms. Those officials included Olson, former NATO supreme commander Gen. Wesley Clark and former acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement John Sandweg. The trio lobbied U.S. officials after returning from their Doha meeting with Qatari officials, the FBI said. He added that one of his greatest regrets was recruiting Allen into the effort because of the subsequent negative publicity. Allen has denied any wrongdoing but stepped down as president of the Brookings Institution, a prestigious Washington think tank, amid the FBI investigation.

CNN —Anna Sorokin, the fake heiress Netflix’s “Inventing Anna” is based on, was released from ICE detention on Friday. The judge’s ruling also said ICE may use an ankle monitor to keep tabs on Sorokin. A spokesman for ICE said Sorokin was being released Friday after the judge’s ruling. Sorokin was released from jail in February 2021 after serving nearly four years on theft and larceny charges. Earlier this year an attorney representing Sorokin told NBC News that he feared her deportation when he couldn’t reach her, but word later emerged that she was still in ICE custody.
