The tone of economy stories since 2018 doesn't match variables such as GDP, inflation, and unemployment. This may have fueled a disconnect between how the economy performs and how people think it's performing. Meanwhile, a December Bankrate study found that 59% of US adults feel the economy is in a recession. Still, many Americans feel better about their local economy than the national economy.
