Known as the USMCA, the trade deal was negotiated by the first Trump administration and replaced the quarter-century-old North American Free Trade Agreement, or NAFTA, in 2020. A review of the trade pact was expected in 2026 regardless of Trump’s pledge, due to a requirement in the agreement. But Trump’s proclamation has put Canada and Mexico – the US’ two biggest trading partners – on notice that he may pursue major changes. Trump may also be looking at ways to shrink the US trade deficit, one of his favorite economic measures. The goods trade deficit with Mexico alone increased more than 78% between 2020, the year the USMCA took effect, and the end of 2023.

CNN —The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York released the first renderings of its revamped wing for modern and contemporary art, a $550-million project spanning around 126,000 square feet and designed by Frida Escobedo, the first female architect to design a wing in the museum’s 154-year history. “The wing will comprise a three-story base supporting recessed fourth and fifth floors,” a representative for Escobedo’s studio said in a statement. The museum is in the final stages of a $70-million upgrade of its Michael C. Rockefeller Wing, which houses African, ancient American and Oceanic art galleries. PARIS — Most have on jeans, some wear rough work boots, and one sings with a white construction helmet tucked under his arm. The 80-strong choir has come together to do more than sing, though — the crew of architects, stonemasons, archaeologists, art historians, art conservators and others have helped rebuild Paris’ Notre-Dame cathedral after a fire ripped through the iconic French Gothic masterpiece nearly five years ago. CNN —An award-winning university building that won a prestigious architecture prize is set to be demolished less than 30 years after it was built, sparking widespread criticism. The Centenary Building was built for Salford University in northern England and won the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Stirling Prize, which names Britain’s best new building, in 1996. However, the university has confirmed to CNN that it will be knocked down after sitting empty for several years. “I simply cannot support the demolition of a building that is only thirty years old. “By definition they are the best buildings of the year, and to list at least one modern building a year, after due consideration and maybe a little time, would not seem unreasonable.”
